Sorry lira, but that’s bull. People will see whatever they want to see.
Its ridiculous to argue that there was some intent on behalf of KFC to make a racist advertisement. It isn’t rational to argue that a business would deliberately go out of their way to lose themselves money, on either a canned ad or poor public relations.
I'm not saying that was done on purpose but, even when Americans say it is racist, you can clearly understand why. Did you really need someone to point out to you why it might be the case?
If I said it represented the male oppression over the female body, and went on a Freudian diatribe, your point would be even more valid: people will see whatever they want to see. However, this is part of a very popular discourse in the US, and it's impossible to avoid comparisons. That being said, I don't think KFC made a racist advert, it just turned out to be the case once people looked at it from another perspective. For example:
This was supposed to be the sun rising behind a building. But, that's not quite what you see, is it?

So what? When I think of the racial makeup of the windies, I think of black people. why should KFC be any different? The ad merely represents what your typical windie cricket fan looks like.
Would it be as funny if he gave that bucket to a bunch of poms?

It doesnt matter who he gives the bucket to, thats not the point of the joke, its about a rowdy crowd, not a rowdy bunch of black people. It's you Americans who are twisting it all around tbh. Don't go preaching to us about racism either.. I think America is looking for a scape goat in other countries, now Australia just to point their fingers and say LOOK ITS A RACIST, to deter all the negative feelings the rest of the world has against you racist pricks.

I don’t give two flying s what the ignorant yanks have to say about stereotypes that do not exist in Australia. the ad was made for Australians, presumably by Australians, and broadcast only to Australians. Why should the opinion of the US matter? Especially since the goddamn caribbean aint America either.

Of course- Poms/Indians/sri Lankans/Pakistanis. Coz they’re the cricketing nations we see most often touring. Not that I think the ad is “funny” anyway, but the point of the ad would be EXACTLY the same: An aussie supporter at the cricket surrounded by the opposition supporters and buying their mateship with KFC.

Well, that's not how it works nowadays. If you see a woman being beaten up in a place where it is okay, do you really expect people not to say that's sexist?

All rightie, then. Just please tell me there is an advert like that already.

That’s a horrible analogy. There’s a qualitative, definitive and easily identified “wrong” in the beating of the woman. Just because someone thinks something is racist doesn’t automatically make it so, ESPECIALLY when they’re applying their fallacious reasoning and cultural specificity across another culture they know nothing about. If some idiot yank misunderstands some media not intended for their consumption, stiff ing . It doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to kowtow to the American experience.
