I'm not saying that advert is analogous to smacking a woman up, sorry for not making my intentions clear. What I mean is that you can't step out of your culture, so to speak, when you see facts about other peoples, so you can't help it. Not being able to get them is not really much different from their inability to understand you.
And having another advert would really straighten things out. It's a shame there isn't one :( |

Really that's just bringing the discussion into the issue of ethics. Does every culture have the same, universal ethics? Who decides what's wrong for everybody? Most people believe in the basic : don't kill, don't steal, etc, but when you get into issues of sexism and racism and stuff the lines blur strongly when you go into different cultures.
Or something. I'm on lot's of xanax right now so woo! |

While you might not be able to “step out” of your culture, that’s not quite the same thing as assuming everyone in the entire world is the same as you and mis-judging contexts due to those assumptions. this issue is not an issue of race, but wilful American ignorance.

The difference is that I DO get them, because you know, I take an interest in things outside my own back yard. I know there’s an American stereotype involving nignogs and fried chicken. The point is that idiot yanks don’t seem to understand that other places do not have the same issues/contexts, yet proceed to judge those places anyway.
If this were another country, perhaps I would be more forgiving. But the fact that yanks can’t see/understand anything beyond their own nose is a well established American stereotype, and since they seem determined to perpetuate that stereotype I see no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt.
