The missus used to work for a certain unnamed cancer "charity" (read: "corporation"), left after she got tired of several years of their b.s. propaganda. Most of these "charities" are nothing more than huge money-making machines, with employees under subtle yet constant pressure to make quotas, and only a very small portion of the funds raised going toward actual research. The latest in the company's long string of CEOs came from an even larger corporation and was brought on more because of their business acumen than any connection or background with cancer research.
It's pathetic, really. You have these organisations essentially suckering people into donating funds ("I'm so sorry to hear that your wife died of cancer, your contributions will help so much!"), and decades later they still haven't found anything resembling a cure. People would be appalled if they knew what a miniscule percentage of the contributions actually went toward finding a cure.
Don't get me started on this whole bra/FB thing. Are people really *that* naïve/lazy that they think this is somehow going to make any difference? "Hey, I posted my bra colour on Facebook from my high-stress cubicle job, located in an office filled with stale, artificial air, now I'm going to go out on my smoke break, then wash it down with a nice 700ml bottle of Coke and some carcinogen-laden, processed insta-food for lunch! But hey, at least all my online friends know I care about cancer!"

I'm not saying that there aren't viable organisations out there, but people should really be a helluva lot more selective when donating funds. People tend to donate because it makes them feel better about themselves, which in and of itself is not a bad thing, but when combined with relative ignorance as to where the money they're shelling out is actually going, it allows organisations like the one I (didn't) mention to continue to flourish, while fringe researchers who aren't focused on money and ego and who tend to make actual progress in their field are left scrounging for change.

I think that FB campaign probably raised a good 10 bucks!!! and in terms of awareness, now retailers have a better insight of popular bra colours...lol

To an extent, depends on a person though. Some people are very private, have facebook accounts, and come off pretty humble!
Twitter on the other hand is excessive, IMO.
