i'll keep it simple

Ben Sims
Marco Carola
John Acquaviva (techish set)
Laurent Garnier

Most of these guys are only obscure to you because they have never played here before. In europe a lot of these guys have played huge festivals and their bookings are busy.:)

This thread would be no fun if we only picked acts we've seen 100000 times before would it?

Yeah Malek has got it :D

All those guys are due to visit Montreal again. Even though I dream of a pure techno set, all of them can deliver without playing pure techno.

i concur, along with Ben Sims. I do love me some techno. MCDE like Maher pointed would be a booking to remember.

If i may add a (or a few dj): one that came in montreal about 3-4 years ago i remember well and i think happens to be a good guy too:

- Funk D'Void aka François Dubois (Lars Sandberg)

Its true im acting a bit like an old record repeating over and over the same names, but i find this dude to be like a "guarantee seal" where disappointment will be huge if he doesnt deliver because he always does. Ever progressing/changing in his mixes and productions, i dont think its really possible to associate him with a style of "predilection" . From the darkest deep tech flirting with minimal to thumping techno to deep prog, he's got a wide array of material with sudden mood swings in his mixes that can adjust to any lineups/events. Here's a mix from the spaniard adopted fellow:

Funk D'Void - live @ Womb, Tokyo (Japan) - 2009-07-19

03 Francois Dubois - Live @ Womb, Tokyo (2009.07.19) by nonblue

and what the heck: Motor City Drum Ensemble (Danilo Plessow)

Really thought for a long time MCDE was 2 dudes, wrong! One man army ensemble that can certainly reach and entertain a good proportion of people but i personally dont think its for everyone and needs a "along the line/same style" line up. Im pretty sure that's what piknik always does by making line ups with matching style dj's, but i find its really important to put the emphasis on it for this one, have to know him to appreciate him.Super smooth, sometimes slow mixes, can go along the line of "The Revenge", sometimes not so. I still maintain he released (as it was 2008 produced) the sickest track of 2009 (imo: Raw Cut no 5, im still debatting a bit on it though). I think listening to mixes is pretty much self explanatory:

Beats in Space Radio Show 481 with Tim Sweeney - special Guest MCDE - 2009-08-11

Motor City Drum Ensemble - Beats In Space - 11-08-2009 by R_co

RA mix 132 - 2008-12-08 - MCDE

Speaking of Acquaviva, Malek one of my all time favourite videos of yours was Acquaviva playing a really bomb track. Do you remember it?

I don't want to die a Laurent Garnier virgin.

Please bring him.
Enjoy
MCDE sucked when I saw him, so boring and uninspired.

Yeah, pretty much fits the description i gave of him. Have to admit, sometimes he just doesnt bring it, but with the 2nd mix i put, he shows he can also deliver. "Kovalev like" dj? Might be

very interesting dj to say the least, he will play rock, house, hip hop, dnb, and pretty much any type of music that is in 12" form.

Aquaviva did piknic not too long ago i think. 2 years maybe? I like your picks except Carola man, he has gone from great to bad.:)

Another one.

Since there was a Dnb thread...

A Guy Called Gerald. Nothing much to say here, a living legend. Anything from mnml, to junglist, to house. He mixes with 2 laptops and reason, and would probably be one of the more interesting Live PA choices imo.

this set is massive:

GCG @ Redevice Invites, Studio 80 Amsterdam LIVE PA Part 1 by aguycalledgerald
KrinKer
Layo and bushwacka

Slam

Garnier

Youssef

Either of the 4 would mean a road trip for me !
