Word. Even though I'm not religious, I don't care if people want to get in prayer groups and do their thing. My problem is when they try to force it on others, exploit it for financial reasons, use it for controlling purposes, or extremist behavior like jihad or, on the other side of the spectrum, that jerkoff Pat Robertson who said today that the people of Haiti made a deal with the devil which lead to their suffering (yet, 95% of them practice Christianity... wtf is he talking about?).
They worship the devil you heathen.

I'm trying to help you enjoy it more. As a lover of Sci-fi and politics I figured you would find this book even more enjoyable when understood as a commontary on the Roman Empire through fantastic allagory, no? I mean come on... casting Nero as false prophet demanding all worship Rome (the seven headed beast) at the same time that the Empire is killing Christians for not paying tribute to the pantheon of pagen gods... that's just great political commentary.
nah, ive always been a huge fan of the concept of the return of god and the final battle between good and evil :) the book of life, the antichrist, oceans of fire rar rar rar!
I know many have tried, but they should really make a GOOD movie on the topic. Preferably one written by an atheist who doesn’t necessarily think god’s the nicest chap in the universe and destined to win the battle. I actually found this short film pretty damn awesome:

I do take great issue with your claim that religion is a pathology. Yes, there are idiots drawn to religion much as there are idiots drawn to any other group social interaction; however, there are also a great many incredibly bright and mentally stable people who are highly religious.
I used to think that..but the more I learn about religion the more my doubts grow.. Now matter how you phrase things, what it ultimately boils down to is belief in an intervening sky fairy.. I can't help hearing that phrase in my head when I hear religious people speak of the will of God.. "A ING SKY FAIRY? REALLY??" The more I learn about religion the more infantile it seems, and when it comes to Christianity the "God" character seems like a quite sadistic and unpleasant dictator..certainly not someone worthy of worship. I also see little morality in the teachings of Jesus. The idea of causeless love for everyone (including your enemies) is a recipe for suicide..and the main Christian doctrine of vicarious redemption is a mockery of justice.. The idea that your sins against others can be forgiven and "washed away" by a 3rd party does nothing but remove your responsibility in life. It is no comfort to the victims you have wronged. The whole concept is ridiculous and immoral in my view..and those who take it seriously will inevitably be stunted in some way.

Shut the up. What's your ing problem ? Getting defensive because you fell for the AGW hoax and feel like a baffoon while we're in the midst of a 10th strait year of cooling and the coldest winter in 25 years? I'm not defending religion at all. All I was saying was THOSE people in the video aren't hurting anybody by what they're doing, even if they look like fools.
How many goddamn times have I said that I'm an athiest, can't stand religion, and believe in a historical context, it's caused more grief than good? ! Pay attention!
me dead you're dense and completely out of touch. Global Warming doesn't mean that all parts of the planet have to get warmer. Had you finished basic science in ing junior high you would know that

I detest and despise wilful ignorance about science due to ideological preconceptions or desires.

My comments had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with global warming denialist (conservative) turds.

Wait, can I be the producer instead?
Talking about atheist series, and I know I've praised it as much as Pkc talks of Babylon 5, I love how the writer of Torchwood starts from the premise that there is no God and works on that. The series also lack that annoying dualism that pkc defended a few posts ago, and that is entertaining to a certain degree, giving it a fresh air.

Poor Haitians are screwed. Just when they need everyone's prayers so Jesus can help them through the crisis, everyone's too busy praying on something else already. They just can't catch a break. :(

It seems like Democrats in America are everyone else's right wingers which is scary.

You know, the one thing that really astonishes me about the New World (so I'm including Brazil here with the US) is that the sanest social criticism that manages to get some airplay does not come from public intellectuals, but from comedians. Bill Maher himself pointed this out in his criticism of francophobia:
