West Coast Work Out Thread
Figured it might be helpful to some people to post what they are doing to stay healthy, especially during the winter. Maybe some of us can get advise on how to eat, run, and/or exercise a little better.
For me, I've been working out pretty steadily since the new year started. Sticking to my resolution pretty good on that. HOWEVER, I still eat like a pig. My goals are to improve my cardio by running a little more and eating healthier.
question,
do you prefer running before or after a work out?
I generally run before hand, just cuz it gets the blood flowing. Its usually less then a mile. |

| im not a personal trainer however i did train with one and he said u should do only a 5-10 minute light warm-up and do ur more extensive cardio workout after ur lifting. i apologize i cant remember the specific reason behind it, but thats what he said to do. |

Yeah getting weight off can be tough. Exercising is not a problem for me, I've always played sports and things of that nature, so its nothing new. However, eating right, thats another thing, my love for food is too strong haha. My best advice would be to read up on all of the stuff you like to eat and know what you are putting into your body. For example, I liked fast food, but when I read up on the calories and what not, there were many times when I figured out something along the lines of, for every mc chicken I have, I can have ten (insert healthy food)." Just an example, but once you figure out how many calories you should be consuming a day, it should be easier to eat healthy.
As for running before or after lifting, I usually don't run and lift on the same day. However, when I do, I usually run afterwards. The question in itself is pretty highly debated, so you can't really go wrong with either one. My reasoning is because I like to have as much energy as I can during lifting, and would hate to not get the most out of my work out.
Good luck with everything, I'm also trying to get back on the horse, work and school have been killing me. |

| When I was on a plan (and lost 80lbs, in 7 months...100lb if you count the 4 months it took me to lose the first 20lb trying to diet w/o a plan!)...and pretty much every other plan I chose, you weren't supposed to "work out" (lift weights) and do "cardio" (run) on the same days. And there were reasons. Cardio days lets our muscles recover easier from the workout days. It was a system to maximize the working out vs cardio. |

| Lift weights before running. You burn more calories that way. |

| When doing cardio for fat loss, its best to do your cardio on an empty stomach or after a workout because youll be a carb depleted state meaning that you will burn calories from fat instead of carbs. |

I used to do more cardio, like hiking and biking by the beach, but I haven't done that in months. I miss doing that. I love doing outdoor work outs... I just don't have anyone to do it with. I get really bored doing cardio at the gym :(
I also used to do yoga and pilates at least once a week, but I haven't done that in a while either.
I've been religiously taking this class at the gym the past few months though, called Lift, where you do lounges, squats, sit ups, push ups, and weights etc. It's a very intense class, but I know I still need to do more cardio. I need new sets that I can go on a treadmill with, to make it more enjoyable.
No matter how much I work out and diet though, I can't get rid of my curves, especially my ass and thighs. My body type just wasn't meant to be slim and skinny. |
