The officers "delivered 2-3 closed fist strikes to Miles' head/face with still no effect," and then a "knee strike to Miles' head causing him to momentarily stop resisting," so that he could be handcuffed, the document says.

Miles' mother said the officers did not identify themselves as police to her son, a viola player and student at the city's Creative and Performing Arts High School.

The complaint says the police officers believed Miles was engaged in criminal activity and possibly armed with a "large heavy object." The object turned out to be a bottle of Mountain Dew.

Miles was charged with aggravated assault, loitering, resisting arrest and escape.

"My son tried to run thinking his life was in jeopardy," Terez Miles said. "He made three steps before he slipped and fell." After that, she said, the police used a stun gun and beat him, pulling out a chunk of his hair.

Depending on his level of proficiency at the viola that bottle of mountain dew could have looked massive juxtapose to his frame.

The police only wanted to know if anyone had seen Richeeeeeee

This would never have happened if he was drinking this

Groundhog Boy
You think that's bad - this guy literally cooked to death in mid-August heat after being left in a cruiser for 5 hours, and quite likely wasn't drunk at all to begin with. And not mentioned in the article, the cop in question had already been fired from a neighboring town for beating the out of someone prior to this incident.

FYI, he was fired following a 3 month investigation, though I haven't heard what civil lawsuits both the department & the officer are facing.

AG now probing Punxsutawney police custody death
AP
POSTED: August 27, 2009

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) - The state attorney general is now investigating the death of a man in a Punxsutawney police cruiser.

A spokesman for the attorney general says Jefferson County District Attorney Jeffrey Burkett referred the case to state prosecutors because Burkett knows many Punxsutawney police officers very well.

Punxsutawney police Chief Tom Fedigan hasn’t released the name of the officer who is suspended with pay in connection with the death of 48-year-old Stephen Obbish on Aug. 15.

Obbish had been picked up on suspicion of public drunkenness about 9:50 a.m. and was found dead in the same police cruiser about five hours later. Among other things, investigators are trying to determine if Obbish was drunk or suffering from a diabetic condition instead.
