| I never got disciplined with a spank/slap/belt. It was just time-outs & chores for me. My older brother & sisters had it different though. Maybe cause I was the only good kid :p They got everything...belt, spoon, soap in the mooth, etc. My Dad once broke a big wooden spoon he hit my brother so hard with it. And my Mom had to tie my brother down to a chair just to eat dinner. He was a terror. |

haha of course I got my ass beat but that didnt stop me from doing stupid which was my point. There is no proof that beating your kid will make them behave better...they will only try harder not to get caught next time :p
One time my brother was eating a chicken leg trying making my sister laugh and my dad slapped the back of his head so hard that the chicken leg went flying across the table. |

There are lots of kids who got spanked who do ty things and vice versa..so spanking is not the common denominator in all of this..
This is actually a huge issue with my husband and I. I am dead set against hitting children. My dad hit me once my whole life and the incident has had a deep impact on me and is is still very vivid in my mind. I can still feel the hurt and betrayal I felt at that moment as if it happened yesterday. I honestly believe that I lost a bit of my innocence at that moment. It was the first time another human had physically hurt me.
My husband on the other hand believes that you should be able to spank your kids up until they are 6 or so. We have gotten into HUGE fights about it and I know that when we have a child , it will be a huge point of contention.
Spanking is not right especially when it is a tool used by first time parents that get frustrated with their children and start smacking them around for every little indiscretion the child makes. All it does is breed fear in the child. Ya, they may not do certain things because they fear the pain you are going to cause them but in the end, it can also have long lasting psychological consequences. Kids are not slaves and should not be beaten into submission.. |

well eventually you get tired of getting beat up.... and you do learn not to do that again... so it was in my case... anyway i was a bad child until arrival to canada.... back home i could get away with dozen bad activities and not suffer long term punishment's i.e end up in a nut home :stongue:
getting beat my mom only meant i will have a good cry nap :haha:
in reality Europeans will beat their kids, over here people are soft
p.s i split with one of my ex's because of the different views exactly on this topic lol |

Honestly, I never got beat as a child, but I did get spankings and it didn't cause me any harm. It taught me to behave, lol.
I don't see the harm in a smack on the hand to learn not to touch things. My parents could take us out to people's houses and they didn't have to put things up because we wouldn't touch them. We were taught not too.
What I can't stand is those parents who don't believe in spanking their kids, but yet have no control over their kids at all while out in public. Put some damn discipline in place and get control of your kids yo! I don't want to hear them screaming and misbehaving while I am in the vicinity of you in a store, a mall or wherever I may be! :p |

Spanking is nothing. It's a slap across the behind that doesn't even leave a red mark most times, never mind any form of physical harm. Spanking is much harder on a child's mental state than on their physical wellness.
Spanking doesn't work on some kids, it works on others. If you're going to spank, it needs to be used as a last resort, and "I'm counting to 3" doesn't count as trying something before you smack. |
