This is clearly directed at my comment earlier.
I didn't like Rank 1's set because of the tunes he spun, not solely because he was practically emotionless.
If he had spun stuff I liked I would probably not even have mentioned the latter.
Also, I don't see anything wrong with commenting on the fact.
I'm not allowed for some reason?

i agree that it does help if a dj moves a little bit.. HOWEVER, it is not a requirement so people need to stop bitching about it.
i might not be dancing or jumping around like a ing monkey in the wild to be enjoying my night and the music. it all depends on the person's personality. some people just dont dance. give the djs a break. |

Yeah, some people expect it. I personally LOVE seeing a dj with a huge smile on their faces during their set (and I mean a GENUINE smile). But I've also seen incredible sets from really serious looking djs.
The genre plays a huge part in how a dj acts too, of course. Imagine seeing a trance dj that has similar mannerisms to Luciano while spinning (cigarette hanging out of his mouth and all)...jumping and Jesus posing just works better for trance. ;) |

I would rather a cardboard cut out that spins a sick set, then some douche bag jumping around doing glow sticks while his set goes to .
Like I usually like Menno but I thought his set fell short. Altho it looked like hes been practicing his dance moves and high fives.... Sorry Menno |

You got Erick Morillo. Crowd pleaser, dancing in the booth all the time & a magnet. Spins great house music but lacks mixing skills but it doesn't matter because he possess the qualities mentioned.
Nick Warren, underground, sleazy, sexy, dark you name it, house & breakbeats. Not a crowd pleaser or dancer but very concentrated on his set. It's admireable but the music speaks for itself.
John Digweed, in my humble opinion, one of the best mixer's (other than Sasha/Phil K/Lee Burridge/Meat Katie) in the world. He tackles progressive, tek, tribal or funky house like no one else. Any of his appearances have a true underground feelin'. The most concentrated DJ I've seen in my life. He loosen's up, just gotta see when.
Steve Lawler, plays music for adults, haha :D A fantastic DJ & a legend in the House scene. Enough said.
The point is, it's the music and atmosphere present at the party not the DJ or their celebrity status. You enter a room, look around you, the moment you feel that positive vibe & energy, let's ing party, rather it's an trance/house/breakbeat/dnb/jungle/garage that's all to relevance. At the end of night, you will remember the DJ because as time goes by with the amount of paties you will experience, each DJ produces a set that has an own adventure & taste :) It's not rocket science people.

There's people who stand and are shy of whatever they approach. We're all different and some need time to settle. The worst is when these posers come out, walk seemlessly and stand around. Not a smile, nothing. White/black/yellow/brown ing supremacy, cat's wrapped in hat's, go to another party with similar taste :stongue:

im not shy.. at least i dont think i am.
when i first started partying i danced from open until close. i didnt even leave the dancefloor to get a drink. i would send a friend. (lol)
the only time i left the dancefloor was to pee. ever since i started working in the industry my partying has changed. i can have just as much fun standing around and "people watching" as i did when i danced all night. i guess i just see the party through a different set of eyes now. |

I have no problems with dj's that interact..as long as the music is not suffering because of it..why not? It is entertainment after all. I don't see what is wrong with having personality? Last I checked, they are humans not robots.
Dj's that are visually entertaining bring a whole new element into the show. If the point of the show is to JUST hear the tunes, why not stay home and pop in a cd? |

you said it. they are humans, not robots. so each person is different. some djs may have the personality to dance around a bit while others like to concentrate on their set. not everyone can multitask equally. many of us has just come to expect djs to dance around and throw their hands up but thats not how it should be. i think a good set is primary, the interaction is secondary and not absolutely required. |
