I'm currently booked at a hotel in SoBe, but it's expensive and looks a little shady. I'm not, and will be staying 7 nights, so I'm hoping to find something nicer. :) |
Whats the name of the hotel? Im familiar with alot of them (since I live in Miami)..
Ill tell u one place NOT to rent @: Haddon Hall.... rented there last year cuz it was $100 / night (VERY cheap for WMC) but the place was a dump... this year they're chargin $300 a night!!! hope its cuz they remodeled, but I doubt it... |

Just PM'd you! :D Yeah, crossed Haddon Hall off my list a long time ago, another one that fell into the "complete dump" category...the remodeling is probably new duct tape across the carpet... :haha: |

After looking through a lot of vacation rentals for WMC weekend, here's some more advice:
- Most of them do not show whether available or not, so you have to email them. All the ones I emailed were already booked. One of them did show available on VacationRentals.com, but it was also booked (the guy just forgot to update it).
- Found a great one near Ocean/5th that was advertising $800/week, but the guy emailed me back that his rate was $2,140/week! So what you see isn't always what you get.
I pretty much decided that anyone who has a nice rental available will be charging a good premium for it that week, and didn't feel like reading contracts, possibly having problems getting deposits refunded (someone claimed to have been charged $1,000 total deposit even after leaving the place cleaner than he found it, but fought it for 8 mos with Amex and eventually won) and taking the chance that I might wind up in South Beach with no place to stay if they were scamming, double booked or whatever (yeah, vacationrentals.com has insurance, but you call them and they send you a check, which doesn't do much good if everything is booked up).
So I decided to change strategies. Instead of looking for the cheapest hotels, I picked some of the mid-range ones and searched prices through TripAdvisor (lets you search something like 8 different booking services at once, e.g. Expedia, Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.) I was amazed how much the price differed from one booking service to the other.
Travelocity had a "25% off for 3 days only" deal on the Winterhaven, and this 3-star hotel was reviewed 83% thumbs-up on TripAdvisor (with over 300 reviews), which is pretty amazing compared to how the others rated. With the special offer, it was just $90 more for the whole week than the other hotel I had booked. The Winterhaven's not a glitzy new hotel, but it is directly opposite the beach, has good customer service, and most of the staff seem to have worked there for years.
There's another hotel like this in San Fransciso that I stay at every year for LovEvolution called the Chancellor Hotel. I've stayed there 6 years in a row, and the manager even gives substantial discounts for repeat customers (like almost half!)
Guess I might be less picky if I were just staying a night or two, but for a week I'd like something decent that I'm happy to come back to every night. They do charge an additional $10 resort fee per night, but seems almost all hotels do this in SoBe. For the $10, you get beach chairs, umbrellas, continental breakfast including cereal, juice, muffins, bagels, boiled eggs, fresh waffles (you make them using the waffle iron), and fresh fruit, plus drink coupons (so $5 each instead of $13). Good question is if I'll ever be up early enough to eat the breakfast (most places stop at 10:30 or something ridiculous...maybe I'll just come back from the parties late for breakfast wearing sunglasses! :toocool: )
Not sure when the 3-day offer ends, but Travelocity should say "25% off good buy" if it's still available. Oh yeah, and they charge it all to your credit card immediately, but reservations can still be canceled at no charge up to 3 days before arrival.
Looks like my search is over...I think... |

| Does anyone know anything about the AAE Lombardy in North beach? It looks a little scary, but almost every review I have read has been favorable! |

Oh lord... Acton, Mike and Barbina in the same room might cause an explosion of awesomeness. Then we add Rose into the mix and my face might melt from the sheer epicness. |
