P.S. DEPLORABLE

I must disagree with you. John Beaver, is an awesome DJ. His skills to read the crowd and feed of from the energy of the crowd is a talent. You will never see John just standing behind the decks, looking through his cd's, and not acknowledging the crowd. He always gives his 100% and you can tell that his love for the music goes deep in his soul. He will sing, jump, and scream. There is never a dull moment with him.

I was not there this past saturday, but did watched and listen to his set on mugasha, and even on video, you could see John singing the lyrics and jumping all over the booth. Not just "hitting the cue button". Anyhow, your opinion is valued here, but you would have to give more of opinion, instead of just one word "deplorable".

Oh dear, this is prob gonna turn into some debate with people where people are going to say things "in general" and people will start taking it personally.

I don't feel like writing essay replies today...so hopefully this doesn't really go anywhere.

stop it! I think that staying at that hotel in SF might be getting to you.. Wasn't it call Drama Queen or something...

Edit: My bad I think that it was Diva! haha sorry
DaveT
Yep, I know. But hopefully not. Hopefully there's substance to add to his "deplorable" impression.

lol, what does that have to do with anything.

We are potentially discussing an opening set. Everyone knows me knows that I think the opening set is the most important set ofthe night. It sets up the headliner, the mood. It requires intelligence in constructing a proper set to lead into the headliner and not just playing what you want. It also a side-impression you will have of the night.

Example: A headliner can be amazing on his own, but you don't hear of many insanely memorable nights where the opener wasn't someone worth pointing out and made the night and the progression better as a whole. Where you almost want to say that the headliner played as well because the opener set him up so well.

An opener could even really have the attention of the crowd, but it's not about his or her set. It's about aligning things up to make the whole night amazing with great progression. Openers fail in this area a lot too.

I strongly believe that some of the best headliners really do feed off the opener and whether or not the opener does an apporpriate job can greatly impact on how well the headliner and everyone else does.

An opener...crap...see, it's starting! Thanks a lotl.

I'll just put Devin down for nap right now to stop.

LOL this is funny! Thank you all for the support but Im not too worried about this!

One thing Ive learned over the years is everyone has different tastes and style preferences so you cant make everyone happy. Plain & simple and its going to happen to all of us as djs/producers as often as we are in the spotlight.

Like Rizo said I myself tend to play across many genres when I perform just to keep things moving and interesting. I also come from a indie/rock background so I do tend to play some underground rock rmx stuff once in a while (i.e. played a oasis and ellie goulding rmx during my set)

All in all for me its about having fun and enjoying myself while I am up there playing as most of you see and know. Im just glad 95% of the time the crowd is right there with me giving the love and energy right back to me!

P.S. Hunnybare is right about one thing thou-all these years Ive been mixing and cueing my records wrong. I just realized that ALL the top djs in the world have been cueing the records with their pinky finger and I have been using my pointer finger all this time. This must be a big factor to my errors and I will be sure to fix this problem as soon as possible so I can be right back at the top of my game again. Sorry to everyone for slipping on such a crucial technique and hope you all will give me a second shot!

rock remixes...opening.

I didn't hear it, but reading that could worry me. I'm just too tired to care right now!!

Guess it might just be your lucky day. :)

DaveT
Yeah, that's nice stuff!

Just don't ever pop up a smells like teen spirit remix as an opener. :p
