Review: Ferry @ Nokia 02/12/10 (pg. 3)

What a night!!!! I had an absolutely amazing time.

When I walked into the venue I couldn't believe it, the place is just perfect in every way. Amazing sound, visual screens all throughout the venue, movie theater seating in the back, places to get away and take a breather, excellent stage set up, etc...

I'm not sure if anyone noticed but the walls and the ceiling are lined with audio panels to give the venue the best possible sound. I was pretty blown away by that.

The only thing missing was lasers (not sure if lasers are even possible in there though) but the stage lighting made up for it (great stage light show).

Negatives... something needs to be done with the coat check for future events. The coat check was absolutely horrendous. However, improvements can always be made and I'm sure that the coat check situation will be fixed for future events.

Music wise I think it was absolutely perfect throughout the night. I started the night with ambient and built through deep progressive house, deep tech house and deep progressive tech. Dahlback brought it up some notches throughout his set covering everything from tech house to house to progressive house to trance, then Ferry came on and we all know how good that went. :)

Being a DJ, I'm a stickler for the music having a constant build in energy throughout the night. I'm all about the "Musical Journey" concept and this night was perfect in this sense. John Dahlback and Ferry Corsten played really great together. And there is something to be said for a DJ who can hold back a little knowing that there is another DJ after him. We all know Dahlback could have played harder than he did, but I personally feel he played his time slot very well and his respect for Ferry and for the night musically shows that of a true professional.

Moving on to all of you... I don't want to come off cheesy here but I have a place in my heart for each and every one of you. Because I know so many of you on a personal level it makes for such a great vibe whenever NYTA is in the house. I realize that some of you may have been to young at the time or maybe just weren't into the scene during the days of Twilo, but all the hype that surrounds that venue / era is warrented. Because of the bond and close relationships that all of us have here on NYTA, I can say as someone who did experience the Twilo era that we have something very special here.

And just to confirm this from another source, did anyone hear Ferry get onto the microphone and give a shout-out to Trance Addict?? That was awesome. His interactions with the microphone were impressive and entertaining.

This is quite possibly the longest review I have ever written on here, but the night / venue / music / event production was stellar imo. And it's always a big positive anytime NYC has a new venue. I hope that EDM events at Nokia become a regular thing. And hats off to Made Event for once again bringing us a new venue and as always an amazing event.

FYI ---> TRACK OF THE NIGHT IMO! F*CK YES!!!! :)

As for Ferry, awesome as always, really enjoyed the set and there was one song around 2:50 that made me lose my marbles, I don't know the name of it, but it was INCREDIBLE... Note to Burak: I don't think he played "24 Hours", I woulda gone ape if he did, and pretty sure I didn't hear it, but heard a song with a similar bassline...

you can blame me for that id, not sure wtf i was thinking. it was a really popular track that i have been/was hammering but cant remember now. waiting for the vids.

Awesome he shouted out the TA forum!

Got there @ 12 to catch the last hour or whatever of John's set. Wasn't anything epic, but was definately solid and enjoyable.. had the crowd going! Didn't even mess with the coat check line...Looked redic. I don't know if anyone noticed but the girl next to me and I both looked at eachother and said speaker definately popped... 15 mins into Ferry's set (1:15 or so). Ferry played a great set, good mix of tunes and classics like Fire ect. really got everyone going bonkerz. The Nokia theater walls are all lined with acoustic panels, so that was a plus. The lighting setup was weak IMO. No lazers.. I stayed till 4, good times. I'd go to the venue again, Made always knows how to throw a party.

Ciao.

Wow, didn't expect to see Understatement on the T/L, even though it is a remix. I hope he plays the original in DC next weekend.

Fantastically awesome and awesomely fantastic! I got the Ferry heart when he saw me holding up his red "F" shirt. That totally made my night...well, everything did. Great to meet and see everyone. Felt sorry for Nic getting kicked out, and a special thanks to Vinny for hanging with me at the end for coat check. Wish my man was there. But otherwise, ing great as usual! What was the song AFTER "Brain Box"? Oh, and glad that Ferry knows we are insane!

no everyone it wassent me who started the tiesto chant ha ha ha dam iam known for that but it was deff one of the idiots wearing a tiesto shirt. seriously i must have told like 2 or 3 of them your at the wrong party lol

as for the night got to the venue like 11:15 the line to get in was 5 min coat check was another 30 min BIGGGG FU to whoever is in charge of that, like eco said they had the same line for the coatcheck as for the bar and place to get something to eat so you didnt know which line you were on but yea something deff needs to be done about that

dahlback was ehhh i never heard him before but to me his set was up and down and nothing crazy

ferry was on point i really enjoyed his set, if you look at that tracklist, yea he played alot of his own stuff but atleast its his newer stuff, if he would have played all those old songs (punk, rock your body rock, sythansia etc etc) to me i would have been bored and left so i give ferry credit for playing his newer songs. only songs i didnt like was fire and beautiful other then that his set was great really good flow

the venue itself to me reminds me a lil big of webster hall but with lots of seating, the sound in there was deff clear and crisp but the volume was deff a lil low espeically during the vocals so yea i hope they fix that, those LED lights were crazy tho, some lazers would have been dope also

and deff big props to ferry for shouting out ta and playing kosheen-catch deff wassent expecting that...i think he even said something about electric zoo anyone catch that?

but yea great night i brought out a old friend of mine and he said hes happy to get back into the trance scene and he had a great time,
as did myself with all the ta's and just the whole crowd was really cool for the most part....lots of young cute girls walking around also wa wa wa woooooo...next time i gotta grab one and take them up to the movie theater seats and make out with them just like the good old days :toothless
so yea besides the coatcheck and the sound this place and the night was deff a great party cant wait to see prydz there and ferry at wmc :)
