Tiesto?? What A Joke

I've been a Tiesto fan for years and years and i must say majority of his music is amazing. His ability to experiment with new ideas and construct euphoric tunes has earned him titles of world no.1 many times.
HOWEVER
Tiesto in the modern era has sold himself out. The album of Kaleidoscope has to be the biggest joke to date. I never liked Kaleidoscope at all maybe except for 1 or 2 tracks which mind you are average. However my friend bought me a ticket for the Friday night concert and forced me to go, so me being optimistic, hoped for a night of some good classics (the ones that got him famous and respected in the first place).
The night began with a fail attempt of an opening, i don't know what he was thinking and I don't know why there was so much bass that it sounded like my motorbikes exhaust in my ear. He played I will be here around the beginning which is OK but it isn't Trance, its f***ing Sneaky Sound System music. That song is clearly SSS trademark music not Tiesto's. Anyway i literally grinded through the night because the music was terrible, and what makes it worse is that majority of Aussies these days are into this doof doof that has no melody or no brains, might as well as got a frying pan with a rock and banged them together and thats your Tiesto for the night.
To top off my night, this of a dj rips out some idiotic tune that sounds like Warp from the Bloody Beetroots. How can you honestly even put yourself at the same level as that horrible group. At which point i left the concert and went and got a drink to cool down because i was so pissed off. At some point as well he played about 10 seconds of lethal industry and the crowd went wild, but guess what, we have a lunatic up there Djing so nothing comes out of it.
Out of this massacre of a post, there was one thing which I will give him 1 point for was that he played In the Dark, which was quite good and was different from the elements of life tour version which I enjoyed my 5 minutes worth :). But as this is a Tiesto concert he does have to himself over which he of course did, and did it with style.
The HIGHLIGHT of the concert was(im sure the crowd showed this as well) ONE SONG , which ISN'T HIS?????? WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY???? THE BEST SONG OF THE NIGHT WAS ADVANCED BY MARCEL WOODS. WHY ARE YOU HERE PLAYING SOMEONE ELSES MUSIC YOU IDIOT. GET MARCEL WOODS HERE I'D RATHER PAY HIM THE MONEY.
To sum it all up, who once was a great Trance DJ who played good music is now just a heap of who goes around playing mainstream crap for more $$$. People who sell themselves out like this don't deserve respect in my opinion because
a) They're richer than I am so if I don't require selling myself out then why reduce yourself that low just for the sake of money
and
b) Remember why you are here in the first place, dumb songs from your kaleidoscope album aren't the reason you're respected, it's the reason why you are at present being despised.
Anyways apart from taking up your time to read through all this rage, At least we have Above and Beyond to look forward to :) |

I was a massive Tiesto fan from about 99/2000 to 2003. He's been utter since 2004.

big dance music events have become something to be seen at (at least thats the case here, but I know Summadayze in Melb is a bit like that though). Its just fashionable people going because its the thing to do. Go to a Stereosonic, Parklife, Future, there are a lot of people who don't have much interest in the music, they're just going because its the thing to do.
I'll stop being a jaded now. |

I cant really comment on his last tour, but his Elements of Life tour was probably one of the top 5 sets i have heard live. This was the first time i had seen him though and alot of jaded people reckon pre-2003 he was even better.
I avoided this tour because i didnt really want to ruin my good memories of him, i sussed out his set lists and even though it looked okay at best thought i would give him a miss. I think if you compare it to other electro or house sets it is okay, but has a trance set it fails.
I think thats the mistake alot of people make. Tiesto isnt trance or techno anymore.
And sorry but his a dj, he makes a living playing other peoples music just like 99% of the djs in the world, you cant fault him on that. Dj'ing and production is totally different. |

I went to his last one (I think it was late 2008 or early 2009? To be honest, he was ing brilliant. The track selection was top notch and the production values of the show were fantastic.
Didn't go to this latest ones but it hasn't been getting great reviews. Ah well, I hardly go clubbing any more anyway, plus I'm listening to a lot more house and prog than trance anyway.
Just go to see DJs who you like at the time, forget the status of them and what they may have been like in the past. |

A few things, trance has been for a long time the e-pop, the amoeba's and bacteria's of the electronic music scene, the lowest form of life that still manages to spit out the odd genuinely good track... but it really is mostly just complete crap. In fact I don't think since about 2007 I've actually sat down and grabbed a shovel to dig through the sheer amount of trance crap just to find that little nugget of good music. I simply don't have the time It's much easier to-
Give up
Find a recommendation from someone here
Listen to any number of progressive electronic genres
Lastly, Tiesto is a mainstream DJ, he has been since most of the people on this board where back in school being complete dorks. He did do some great stuff in the early 00's, heck I've still got some favourite remixes from that era that he did. But, it stopped and I stopped listening and quite happy to heckle from the sidelines on TA where no one famous comes anyway.
Trance DJ's are 'too cool' to come here and talk to the punters :D
They're too busy off getting T-shirts printed, their names on rubbish sneakers and finding a metric arseload of rubbish tracks that fist pumping drunken spastics and etards can jump around when they hear it.
However,
I'm also pragmatic enough to understand 'why' they do it, most industries are unforgiving of fools, the music industry from what I know is even more vicious and the smarter ones get with the act pretty quick smart or they just simply fade away into obscurity. So, he's done quite well at least getting some money squirreled away for retirement one day, which is a very important thing to do in his industry which one day may just simply turn on him and many other's with little or no warning.
For the cool tunes he did, I thank him
For the common sense to punch out of a dead genre I understand
I don't go to his shows because they hold no interest for me, that's life, jog on. |
