Fracking annoying computer problem

Every now and then, my computer just tweaks out. It pretty much hangs any and all programs that I'm running for for at least 30 seconds and up to 2 or 3 minutes at a time. It's only started doing this in the last couple of weeks, and it seems to be occurring more and more.

Checking in task manager, nothing seems to be using a ton of RAM, or stressing out the CPU. Instead, it looks like something might be intensely accessing the hard disk (the hard disk light on the computer remains solidly on until it stops tweaking out). But I have no idea what it would be.

I've run a scan with AVG and Malwarebytes, and nothing has come up in either. I thought it might be a pagefile thing, but that all seems to be in order as well.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, on a Quadcore Q8400 2.66ghz system, with 4gb of RAM. There are 2 x 1TB Western Digital HDDs in the system, with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 graphics card.

Any ideas what the it would be? It's really starting to me.

Thanks :)

You shouldn't even be using a page file unless you are doing heavy duty video editing or something that takes up more than 4GB ram. I have the same setup (almost) and have had my pagefile disabled from day one. Try disabling it, then reboot and see if it fixes the problem. If not, my guess is that one of your ram sticks is starting to get errors. Use one at a time and swap them out to see which one it is.

I'm afraid she'll have to be put down. :(

So far, so good.

I'll bump the thread with any updates.

Nah, it's still tweaking out :(

Sounds like too many bird pictures.

Sushi, from your "Run" prompt, type "msconfig" without the quotes and ensure that no processes are starting up on your computer that shouldn't be. If it may not appear to be accessing your RAM, you might be able to pinpoint the bad process through that menu.

Check the event logs for warnings and errors.

There were a few random things that were starting upon booting, but nothing major. I disabled them, restarted, but it's still tweaking out.

There are lots of things (both warnings and errors), but I don't know what most of them even mean :p
