True, but that debate has nothing to do with Canada, VANOC, or the COC.

When our figure skaters got cheated, the concern was about them & the anger directed @ the judges involved, not their home countries or the host country Americans.

They score each element based on how difficult they are, but they take off a certain amount of points if you cant land them. He didnt. They took off points. He scores less. He didnt skate better. He loses.

If you try something more difficult and do WELL then you obviously win, but since he DIDNT do it well, he doesnt win. His scoring was fair! The fact that he still got second reflects that, because he still got high in the standings (mostly based on the difficulty factor) even after all the falters in his routine.

edit: on that note, he talked so much about landing the quad in the olympics, and just because you TRY the quad, doesnt make you any better if you cant LAND it nicely. Looks ugly and messes up the flow of the routine!

to each their own :) I stand by my point that the gold didn't have the gold performance

however I was really impressed by Johnny Weir performances - he puts a damn show on for sure

im not. I just make a **rational** point about the point-scoring system, in which they followed and did correctly according to Olympic rules.

If you LOOK sloppy you can not win gold over someone who sticks everything. Particularly because he only attempted one quad, in which he didnt land, thus gives him about the same amount of points as LANDING a triple cleanly. They scored him accordingly. The Russian couldnt even land his triples right! More points lost. How does that make Plushenko a gold medal winner? It doesnt, because those are the rules AND the skate didnt look good in any sense. This argument is not subjective, dear, it the RULES, as defined by a very clear point system.

My point about people being too emotionally tied to their countries: they use emotion over rationality. Rules were followed, the Russian lost. Boo-hoo. BLAME CANADA!!!!!
rulzz
seeing this debate makes me feel really great about not watching olympics or having cable anymore

actually *I* was referring to the scoring and the FACTS about the sport, but the topic was brought up about how the Russian media went MAD on Canada when Plushenko lost.

How does that make you sad about us? we were all quoting media and/or written rules by OTHER people? And for that matter, He IS a sore loser, because he had a LOT to say about his loss, and none of it was positive. I blame him, not Russia. His personality sucks.

On that note, I personally, would never blame an entire nation, because isnt that what my own big gripe is about? ;)

PS: Someone write the man and tell him to cut his hair! :whip: :whip:

Many argue that Evgeni was robbed and that his performance was exceedingly better than Evan's. It seems Evgeni and his webmasters agree on this point as on his website, where a list of his awarded medals appears, it says that he won the "Platinum" medal at the Vancouver games.
