I think it'd be a great way to start the week :toocool:
PS i know there's a friday meet-up, but it'd be really helpful to meet some people earlier on for me, or anyone else who's new i'm sure. |
Damn, I would totally be down for this if I was arriving on Tuesday. I'm trying to meet as many new people as possible :D |

Personally, I'd avoid taking a cab at all costs unless you absolutely need it (going long distances, or too long of a bus ride) else you can possibly get ripped off. I had one guy charge me $80 one way for a trip that should have cost $30. When I complained to him he claimed he didn't speak English.
Another guy I caught tampering with the meter until I called him out on it. He was charging me for three people when it was just me. |

| Ouch, I'm sure there'll be some shady business going on with the taxis. Unfortunately I feel that if you leave the club at 4AM and are exhausted and need to head to your room/place/etc, the taxi might your only hope at sleep in the near future. |

See the Markus party thread for Tues. night...there's a TA meetup at a BBQ restaurant right across the street. I can't make it though, as my plane doesn't land in MIA until 8:20pm... |

Yeah I always used the bus, but for some reason I took the taxi that night. |

I plan on walking everywhere except downtown. cab it for sure there. there is no way I can take public transit LOL
SO question..
how much spending money is everyone going to have? Im guessing I will spend around $150 - $200 a day on random stuff (drinks, cabs, food) etc.
about right? |

| I spent less than $50 bucks a day last year, until the final evening when I somehow got close to $200 without knowing it.:conf: |

This is the way to go. Just pre-game and save, no need to spend $200 bucks a day, unless it's on 'special stuff'. In which case you'll be dead or in prison before the week is out :disbelief |

Unless you're eating at gourmet restaurants, you shouldn't have to spend more than $30 on food and $30 on cab rides if you're splitting fares. Stop by a liquor/grocery store to buy your alcohol and keep it in your room. Drink before or on your way to your destination. If you must take a taxi instead of public transportation, try not to go back and forth between Downtown and SoBe more than once a day. |

I was planning on bringing $500 cash for Wed morning - Mon morning, bringing 2 credit cards the one I used for my room and the one I used for my tickets, both have modest limits as well for any expenses.
I am not taking my bank card not fooling with atms, so its either cash or credit cards.
Plan to use credit for everything except alcohol/bar tabs, I tend to wind up spending/drinking way to much doing when using credit.
I do plan to pregame hard at my place, also I am not spending alot on fancy meals like $20 steaks or anything like that, but do plan to eat plenty/often. |

IMO, it's much better to visit Miami another time for food, sight seeing, beach bumming, shopping, etc. I feel like WMC is especially not the time to experience Miami cuisine to the fullest. Eating is a second, third, or even fourh priority for most during the week. Not only does money come into play, but time is at a premium to find and enjoy the best restaurants. Obviously, if you are coming from overseas, you may be inclined to experience other things. Also, the best option, if able, is to arrive early or leave late, allowing days to eat, go to the beach, and so on.
I think my $50/day estimation might have actually been a little high. We had a kitchen in our place last year, which we used to cook up some eggs, noodles, sandwiches, and such. A trip to the liquor store is a necesity. We always had a couple drinks before leaving, and one on the way to the club. Stayed and did most of our partying downtown, walking everywhere.
It is always important to over-budget a trip like this, though.
This year should be particularly interesting for me, as I have slowly decreased my drinking over the last year to the point where I don't drink more than once or twice a month now. So drinking should be ridiculously cheap for me, though I can forsee problems concerning the two open-bar yacht parties I am attending.....I better go freshen up on my swimming skills.
:tongue2 |
