Right, so I thought that if I study in the US I might as well go all the way and aim for the most cliche overall studying experience - by going to Mexico for Spring Break!
Anyone been in Playa del carmen? How bad/touristy/frat boy'ish is it really? Any insider tipps for decent clubs/bars that won't play Rihanna all night? General do's and dont's? |

Cancun is the cliché/frat boy place, but if you pick more expensive hotels, the ratio of uncontrollable american 18 years old that just discovered alcohol drops significantly.
On the other hand, Playa del Carmen is much less touristy, but slowly getting there.
Been 4 times to Cancun and 2 times to Playa del Carmen. |

Nice, is it worth making those trips to the pyramids? |

Obviously anything electronic/ somewhat above black eyed peas level. I conclude: more alcohol needed. |

Never been to Chichen itza, been to Tulum a less important site, it's interesting, but everyone tells me that I have to see Chichen itza, but its a damn 3 hours bus ride (one way).
Never buy any touristy packages from the hotels, they are easily double the price you'll find on the street just across from your hotel.
