Hi all

I NEED TO GET THIS RIGHT.

Ok so I've got my first signing and they want a REMIX PACK.

I'm on C5

Does this mean;

1) Audio export each lane

2) Midi export each lane

3) As a 24bt WAV (even for MIDI - wtf!

4) Do the audio lane exports with and also without FX

Have I missed anything?

A remix pack could include a variety of things. Usually it's just the wav files preferably in 24 bit. If you include the wav files, there is not much need for the midi. But you should ask the guy who's remixing your track to see what else he wants.

It's the one doing the remix that should be more specific as to what he wants. But ya, a remix pack could include a variety of things & nothing specific.

The midi data can be imported into the remixers sequencer so that he/she can use the melody with another synth etc.

To be honest, with the track you're having remixed if they need the midi data they're probably the wrong man for the job

Remix packs i've had are a pain if the audio is rendered wet.

Dry is MUCH prefered.

Is that an observation specific to this song or is that true for all cases? I'm assuming that the MIDI, itself for this particular tune, isn't that complex but I've used MIDI provided in other remix packs - on one track only and it was helpful, in terms of work flow.

No i'm just talking in the context of this particular track which is all about the huge beat.

And Richards quite frankly sexeh vocal

:p

if you aren't sure ask.

But generally, you pick and choose the items you feel are more invaluable to the track. I wouldn't bother with a mixdown of each channel except tracks that evolve like a melody. I wouldn't provide midis except for melodic content as I think most EDM producers are ok with rhythms. Just keep in mind that you have to keep the remix pack size reasonable.

Real useful info people, thanks.

I did email them as suggested and they want MIDI too just in case a particular remixer wants it.

TBH I feel like I'm letting my child into the big world alone for the first time - tis a wierd feeling.....

I've found if you beat them enough beforehand they'll be tough enough to survive the badass world.

some loops, some one shots and some midis should do.

just out of curiosity, is there any sample of your track?

Magnus
Its really up to you. I have received extensive remix packs with everything you could think of, but I have also received remix packs that contained just a few wav files and nothing more.
palm
again, as always, less is more.
