Anyone got any good threads or tutorials on dealing with delay in a club whilst mixing??

| I recently started headphone mixing ************ of venue. Too many inconsistencies from one place to the next; logically if you can teach yourself how to cue and mix via headphones you can do it in any venue and not suffer any loss of mixing quality. |

Yup, I mix in headphones anyway. Nice and consistent no matter where I go.
I don't even use split-cue, myself. Just mash 'em together in my phones until they sound right. :) |

For the sound from the room to be coming back to the booth with a delay is perfectly normal and expected.
Thats what monitors are for- trust them.
If the monitors have a delay on, then something is wrong with their system and how its set up.
High quality booth sound and setup is an artform..its something I spend an enormous amount of time on in my venue. |

| if you mix solely in your cans, just make sure you check what is going out to the floor. I've seen a few Djs in my time who were rocking out in the booth big time, while there was absolutely no sound on the dancefloor. Those embarassed looks are priceless. |

Haha.
I don't stay in my headphones the whole time. I get the beatmatching done, and then I remove one cup and go back to listening to the floor. Excellent point to make, though. |

If you have a djm 800 I've found the best way to do it is to cue the individual channels and then when you have everything set and volume adjusted properly switch to the Master Cue and mix them in this way.
I've found it's extremely difficult to correctly gauge the mids on big systems or in rooms with bad acoustics and this takes all the guesswork out of it. |

i need to find the youtube video of Robag Wruhme playing piknic electronique here (as Wighnomy Bros) and fist pumping like crazy until the sound tech taps him on the shoulder to tell him that no sound is going out. It must have been those huge bottles of vodka that they tend to swill while playing:p |

| I use both monitors and headphones. When I'm doing gig with one of my sound systems I delay everything to the booth monitors, so everything is time aligned. I also find mixing in headphones a little more useful because all of sources match at the mixer. One thing I found with some DJ's is they try to match the booth to the house. Which may sound right in the booth but on the dancefloor it's off. |

I don't get that. Sounds like they just need to turn the monitors up...
