What time do you wake up every morning? Early? Do you stay busy throughout the day? Eating properly? Do you exercise regularly? If you currently do these things and your body is still not tired at the end of the night, then maybe some melatonin will help.

Pothead. :p

I would never take up smoking weed. The mere thought of it makes me nauseous.

We give them advice and then we go in for the rape. It's sweeter that way.

I do all those things and still have trouble falling asleep (except for exercise, but I sexercise regularly so that still counts).
Looks like I'm gonna need Melatonin.

It's not the same. You will see how much better you will sleep when you start running every day for 45 minutes or so.

Weed definitely does not have that effect on everyone.

Just today on the subway, this 30-something man in a suit sat down beside me and started talking NON-STOP about the randomest . He was barely stopping to breath. I was like WTF is wrong with this dude - he looks SO normal.

Then he moved closer and I could smell weed on his breath super potently.

i.e. Weed can make you WIRED

I hear ephedrine really keeps you awake.

a nice warm shower usually tires me/puts me to sleep rather quick. also, remove comps/tv's from bedroom...works!

My day is usually +1 or 2 hours so I can get out of balance if I don't have anything keeping me grounded. Luckily I can usually nap when I'd like to. And am finding it more common after large meals now, especially before 4pm.

None the less when I get way out of whack with my sleeping schedule I just push it further.. eg. do an extra 6 or 7 hours in the day, then crash after that. It atleast resets the sleep cycle for me. I tend to find myself free floating. I like to sleep early though when I am on a cycle it helps.

Oddly enough even a 10 minute nap is enough to snap me out of the tired feeling. Today for instance I was reading from a book extinct humans after eating lunch - totally got tired and opted for a nap. Woke up like 10-15 minutes later and was totally rejuvenated.

There are a number of things you can try. What will work will depend on the root cause.

1. exercise: not before you sleep but during the day.

2. anxiety: get a piece of paper and write down anything that your worried about that's on your mind before you go to bed. For example, I've got to remember to mail that bill, call so and so, then study for that examine, etc...

3. Winding down: there many activities that when done close to bedtime are not conducive to sleep. Like working on the computer, watching tv, playing video games, etc

Instead get into a calming routine, have a warm cup of herbal tea or milk, get into bed and read a book. A dark environment helps tell your body it time for bed. I don't know if you've ever had the power go out, but its easy to sleep because there is no light and nothing distracting to do, all that is left is to go to bed.

If the sleeplessness is caused by anxiety you won't be able to fix the sleep problem until you address your anxiety.
