The keyword I said is "clubbers"
The trance CLUB scene in LA is SUFFERING and has been for awhile. I don't see how anyone can deny that. Yes, it is doing very well up in SF lately. I thought LA was taking over, but as I've said in many other threads the last few days I think the huge explosion of the massives is getting most of the big trance DJs out of the clubs in the area. Which, again...killing the trance club scene.
Just look at even last year at Vanguard. Ferry last May was dull. SvD in October was dull. Not packed and not an enthusiastic crowd either time. And I remember a thread every now and then on here talking about the eerie energy that place started to give off for people. :p Most of the big trance DJs are mainly being booked at the big events (and there seems to be more popping up every year), too, so we are seeing them far less in clubs.
Right now there's pretty much just LMD booking trance acts at Circus. There's Markus at Avalon in May, but don't expect trance at Avalon to happen too often unless they decide to change their general (unwritten?) policy of no trance...Circus was unfortunately lacking people last weekend with Kyau & Albert (I have never attended Circus with that small a crowd overall...vibe was chill and fun though, just talking pure numbers). There were a lot less people than I thought would be there, just from them having followers in the area but I guess they don't! Insomniac is trying to start up at the music box with doing their Decor weeklies on Saturday, but not many people showed up last weekend to Eddie Halliwell from all reports (people said 150-200 people max any one time) and then what are they doing their tonight? Nothing on their website, and I thought it was a weekly. Judge Jules next weekend there, though...but I think that was _just_ announced. I could be wrong.
And before anyone says it was WMC weekend last weekend, every year that I find myself in a club during WMC weekend, I think the crowd is going to be light because the die hards are all in Miami. And every time I've been flat out wrong. It always ends up being a madhouse. It's like everyone has WMC fever more than anything and wishes they were in Miami, haha. Like me!
So to me, the trance club scene in LA right now is pretty damn shakey. LMD and Insomniac are our only hopes (though Insomniac has to conflict with itself on whether to focus booking someone for their weekly or some massive they are throwing).
83.975% going tonight. Need to show support! |

Good seeing you last night Dave. And I don't know. Maybe you have a point. Circus should have been packed with the full room open for Menno. Was a little slow. Place was packed for JOC and Andy Moor though so I don't get it. Maybe Menno does not have a big following in LA? Seen him at other venues in LA and they were jammed when he played.
Anyhow. Thank you, thank you, thank you LMD for bringing him in. He is one of my top 5 and had been dying for this night. Loved his 3 hour (!!!) set and he is such a chill guy. Its great. The other rooms were more than a little "interesting" this weekend. A bit different than the "normal" fetish nights lol. |

I'm surprised to hear that, I knew a few people that opted for Circus instead of Fresh, but Fresh might have drawn some away.
That and with Ferry the night before, some might have passed on another night of partying.

Heatbeats music and energy was really good. He was a real nice guy too. Menno played a lot of good music and a lot of old songs last night :)
The scene there was quite intresting, like 3 different parties all at one time, lookin forward to ALEX M.O.R.P.H. Nice seeing all the friends last night. |

Menno was good last night, but I thought his set was uninspired as compared to Vanguard last October. Maybe it was the small crowd.. It was such a crazy mix of people last night, and the guy in plastic shorts and spiked mask freaked me the out. Also, the torture racks in the back room were quite weird. I am a huge fan of girls walking around with ther boobies out, and I aaw many of them.
..... back to Menno... The room was only half full, and Menno played a good set, but I was disappointed with the turnout. I saw Menno later at Avalon and he said it was a good night for him, but I don't believe it.

| Menno had a lot of (DJ, producer, promoter) friends show up last night at Circus to show him support. I am sure that made his night fun. |

ron jeremy was there, fabio #2, the hairy shrimp every woman craves for. he probably brought his cheap skanks. one of the girl i saw with him was walking leprosy. women around him are always like that. they can't even flush a condom.
many of them looked very familiar. but, i came from 20 mile hike and after 3 tequila shots, things weren't registering fast enough. i thought cowboy menno would be the lonely act and he would pull regular dj joke aka "warm up" phase.
lmd should give heads up from now on (well not literally), if there are gonna be cute fetish chicks, screw trance, even gay boyz would approve. |

I don't know walking into Circus this Saturday Reminded me when I walked the Folsom Street Fair in SF! If someone where walking into Circus for the first time for a LMD night.. I could see how it could freak them out a little bit.
I saw one guy who wore a rubber mask that connected to a feather thing around his dick and that was it:nervous: I know this is who they are and it there life style... but it is just a little too much!! IMO this nights change the whole synthetic! I don't know if these fetish nights are turning away the typical LMD crowd....
With that Said... I would like to Thank LMD for bring out Menno and letting him play for 3 hours!!!! I loved his set!!! We got to Circus a little later then normal so only caught about a 1/2 hour of Heatbeat.
It was nice to see a "Bigger" Dj play in the main booth again.. but the sound was really really bad that night. It sound really muffled where it typically sounds great. The sound was better in very back of the club where the other booth is some times used. There where parts of Menno's set that you could not even hear at all!
The production was weak as well.. The visuals where blah... the lights where blah.
It was a "slow" night for Menno and I am not sure why? I don't think it should have been. The last few times Menno has played here the club was pretty packed.
Maybe it was due to to the fact that Ferry played the night before.. but then again a typical party person does have the whole day Saturday to recover if you think about it. Maybe it was due to Easter being the next day... hince why we did not stay till 4... Don't get me wrong it was nice to have so much room to dance... but it would have been nice if there was the same amount of people there where there for Gareth. I think there would have been a little bit more energy actually a lot more energy.
Regardless I still had a great time Saturday!!
Oh after walking out of Ferry Friday night I was bombarded with fliers... I tend to take them all to see what else is going on EDM wise since I know some Rave promoters do not use TA as away to get the word out.. I did not get any thing for upcoming LMD nights. I also did not get anything for LMD on Saturday... odd... Shoot I did not even see anything up on the wall for next weekend or upcoming ones! Are you just using email/text/facebook/myspace/TA/The Free OC night to promote? |

| It must have been a Bat Cave night on Saturday. Their crowd is a bit different than Fetish Nation's. At least that's been my experience. Of course I could be totally wrong. Johnny: are both of them still doing one Circus event per month each? |
