The Japs are indeed cheesy :D
Sushipunk
All the FF games I've played are cheesy :p
Been playing this for about 3 days now, so I'm not that far into it. Chapter 6, I think, or 5? I don't remember.
Liking the battle system, it's quite engaging, but yeah, repetitive depending on what you're fighting. I like ing around on the weaker fights to see what all the paradigm combos can do. Upgrading weapons/stuff is going to be tedious lol.

not really, i just hate people making ridiculous excuses along "partisan" lines. as if linearity is down to file size, rofl :stongue: :stongue: you know what one of the biggest contributors is? fvcking graphics. they could've cut a few movies to improve aspects of the game, but oh no, its sandwich #1's fault hahaha.
It can be to a degree actually.
DX2 levels were far smaller and more linear compared to the original due to console limitations at the time. ing bull :whip:

Alot of people have being bashing ff13 for having no open world map/minigame's etc and being to linear (Still an awesome game non the less), reason for this is because a few gig of content was cut from the original ff13 after microsoft invested to have it released on the xbox so it could fit onto there ty compressed CD. Anyways aside from that theres a new FF13 VS's coming out exclusive to PS3 and being development a few years so you hardcore FF fans will be happy to know it will be twice as big as ff13, Will include a massive world map / towns, airships and ground vehicles to pilot and travel in (Just like ff7) and without a dout a simular type of funfair like the gold saucer also from ff7 to include minigames etc, yeah im pumped for this!.
whats a VS for those of us who arent hardcore gamers nowdays.

ha, try playing with the japanese. Got an early copy of the game with a few buddies and we played thru it a few months before north american release, after we got high enough level, you get some seriously sick pvp fights. Some seriously evil red phantoms come hunt us down.

yeah i got the game because it kinda called my name from the stand..i knew it had good reviews, and then one of the guys in the store is like ive never played it but ive heard it's one of the hardest games ever, so i bought it..and ..they were right. I havent gotten enough high level though, i need to play it more.

I don't normally post in the gaming forum but I have recently begun playing FF13 and have some pros and cons. I think I must be about 5 hours in at this point. I am annoyed by the continued cut scenes and extreme linearity of it so far. I don't think I'd mind the cut scenes so much if I actually understood what all of this nonsense was about. L'cie, Pulse L'cie, Fal'cie? WTF is all of this jibberish? A lot of time jumping too, just trying to figure out who is who and how they're tied together. It's confusing and I'm only starting to get an idea of what's going on. Black man has a bird living in his afro!
That said, the new battle system (once you finally get there) is definitely cool. It's great to be able to change the style of your fight on the fly and not have to scroll through pages of items or spells when you can just have your party vary it's paradigm.
Also, these games tend to take a long time to get into. I mean here I am, several hours in and it is still giving me new features and tutorials (i.e. upgrading weapons, getting the summons, etc). That is all well and good, but it also serves as a reminder that this is going to be a long game if they're still teaching me the basics this far in.
One thing I miss is the awesome musical scores that previous versions had. FF7 was definitely epic. It was the first FF that i ever played and it did not disappoint. I played it to death just to get the Knights of the Round summon (I mean, who really wanted to learn how to race and breed chocobos??? I hate those damn creatures). FF8 was awesome, but the silly ball game seemed like a waste of time. FFX was good, but X-2 lost me and then I was out of the PS arena for a while and only recently got a new PS3. When Sephiroth killed Aeris in FF7, I actually was upset by it. Here i had put in so much time in the game and this hot chick who was somehow going to be a part of saving the earth was brutally murdered in front of me in a full motion cut scene that I didn't even realize a game console was capable of producing. By today's standards it was a joke!
I can only hope that some part of this new game can pull me in and get me as attached to the characters to that I really become invested in the game. Hopefully at ~20 hours in something great happens that opens things up. Usually at 20 hours into one of these games I assume I'm getting close to the end. Exactly how long is this game?!?!

Shakka, I suggest you sell FF13 and get FF9. It's got more of an anime/cartoony style than FF7 and takes place in medieval times instead of the future..but it still has that epic feeling of 7/8.

Do they have a remastered PS3 version? For a minute I thought you might tell me to sell FF13 and buy gold!;)

No remastered version.. They have FF7-9 available for download at the PSN store for $9.99 each. They are exact copies of the originals so you'll have to make due with PS1 graphics, however you can turn on "smoothing" by pressing select which definitely helps reduce jaggies. I recently replayed FF7 on my PS3 and it looked fine. You get used to the graphics in 5 minutes..and the backgrounds are still gorgeous for an RPG. It also saves/loads much faster since you don't need a memory card.
