Has Eastern Europe had a negative effect on dance music?

You got to love the enthusiasm that the Polish etc seem to put into the genre since the internet has allowed them to participate in music. But it begs the question. Do we really want what they, and the rest of the former/communist areas are giving? There are so many eastern European artist's tracks now cluttering generic sounding internet radio shows. So many 18yr old musicians with no more than 5 yrs actual musical influence creating well produced garbage which sounds like unmusical and boring copies of the stuff the established Dutch, German and British artists did the year before.

For the life of me I cannot think of one relatively new Eastern European artist (other than Alex Stealthy) who really stands out and makes really good EDM.

I would name a few of the criminal musicians I have on my mind but don't want to end up highlighting one individuals failings.

i think technology is to blame. its too easy to just get a hold of a piece of software to do the work for you.

That, and piracy is more tolerable and common in this region.

There's a whole generation of kids growing up on Ligaya and Burned With Desire, calling it 'classic trance'. Trance got there much later so this is what they were breastfed with. Since what these producers want the most is to get their tune on ASOT, they try to copy the little they know, which is already a derivate of a derivate.

Well put.

Completely disagree. Half of the great new music I'm hearing is from places like the Ukraine or Poland or Hungary. It's a completely new frontier, and there's none of the cynicism or ideology of the established scenes.

Your problem is that you're listening to trance.

I don't see that negative effect either.
I enjoyed some Reaky stuff. He's from Slovenia I think.

Who the cares? I enjoy a lot of the uplifting supersaw cracker trance coming out of Poland by producers like Arctic Moon.

And woscar before you quote this post and :stongue: , blow me.

This problem has absolutely nothing to do with Eastern Europe.

Russia makes some cool darkpsy, and generally there's some quite good Russian music.

I would say that the Italians are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse. And it's not even a southern Europe thing, as there are people from Greece, Turkey and Spain putting out some really great stuff.

And of course, I'm not saying all Italian producers are bad, in fact far from it, as some of them have made some really solid in the past few years.

Look, I don't disagree with the OP at all, he's got a very valid point, but his point of view does seem pretty narrow.

generalizing about an entire region of the world's overall impact on a music scene is just plain foolish, especially when you consider how fragmented dance music is to begin with. there's all sorts of scenes, both good and bad, original and not, right under your nose and you're totally ignorant of them.
