Review: CZ Sunday (March 21st) aka "Kotsy's 24hr Bday Marathon Bangarang" (pg. 5)

3:55AM - in a 3 person deep line to purchase a pack of gum @ 7:11
3:57AM - the line hasn't moved. I put the gum back and make my way to zone. I'm not missing the absolute START of the cz. The door is locked when I get there. Better 2 minutes early than 2 minutes late. A few minutes pass and they still aren't open. During the wait a line of 3 people forms behind me. Another 5 minutes pass, another few people in line. We're let in. 1st person inside and no cover bc of my birthday. The day couldn't have started any better. Seeing zone completely empty except for staff is eerie and surreal.
Peter Zurub - 4am-6 - Opened things up as always. nice variety in his set - electro, tech house, tribal, happy hardcore... I wish. Stand-up guy to talk to as well.
The Junkies - 6-9 - Finally im able to catch an entire 3 hour set from them at zone. They owned the continental breakfast. I missed their early AM sets! Another extended set please?!
Deko-ze - 9-1pm - First hour or so was absolutely BANGING! The live drummer+Oscar G/Ralph Falcon - Dark Beat=kotsy go BANANAS!!
DJ:TK - 1-3 - Played a nice hunk of tribal and some really good electro. Winx -Don't Laugh FTMFW. I don't understand why she doesn't have a weekly residency here!
Ovi M - 3-5 - Awesome set! This guy deserves what will come to him
Joee Cons - 5-7 - I asked Joee for some tribal and he pounded it. Remix of 'Hey Hey'= Huge standout moment of the day!
Jay Force - 7-9 - You've heard already, but Jay Force KILLED it. Watching him on the mixer is almost up there with Deko-ze. It's impossible not to dance with the energy he gives off.
Christina Cruise - 9-12am - I was bummed when I heard Carlo was sick but she brought her brought her in' a-game. She needs to move to Toronto and play more gigs. Likely spent a little more time dancing on the dj booth step in front of the fence :p
Ricky Syfer - 12-2 - So happy this guy will be playing zone often now because he's with Ink. A welcome edition to CZ!
Alicia Hush - 2-4 - First time catching a complete Hush set and was a great dj to 'take it home'
The music stopped and we were told to leave at 3:50AM so the 24 hour marathon was a COMPLETE fail! Who's in for next weekend?? :haha:
Some noteables:
* Thank you to Jesse for giving me a lift to Zone and Ashley L for being the only one to close CZ down with me (she's my witness!). You are SO much cooler than your lame-ass brother. You deserve it, Jay!
* It's a lot of fun dancing with a shirt over your face
* During Alicia's set these HORRENDOUS looking cross dressers showed up out of nowhere and had possibly the most awkward dance moves I've ever seen in my life. It was hilarious until one of them started touching my neck :eek:
* What was with that dude that looked like a professional wrestler.. but from the stone age. One of the scariest characters I saw all day!
* Being told by Veronica that I acted like a spoiled baby mid-day when Shawna, Heather and herself were trying to get me to go upstairs or outside to eat food. 'NO! I'M NOT GOING!' *pouts*
* Getting deja vu near the end of the night when it was down to less than 30 people in the whole club. Are we starting over again?? Praying to the CZ gods to not close early and ruin my 24 hour streak followed
* THANK YOU to CZ for getting rid of those 3 TVs they had setup displaying smoking advertisements when we were there for Barem last week.
* JJ doing the tango (I think?) with Shawna on the dancefloor. Epic!
* Lurker Rusi telling me at 7PM that his original intent was to only stay for 2-3 hours. He even had a grocery list written out for later on. Clocked 13 hours in the end. HA!
* Jill's ever-changing leaving time. 5PM? 7PM? 9PM??
* After Heather ordered me food I gave her what I thought was a $20 for the Quesidilla. Jill comes down to tell me I only gave her a $5 so I gave her "another" $20. When I asked Heather for change later she told me I gave her a $5 both times :haha:
* Repeating sounds from Alicia's songs back to her while she dj'd for 6-7 songs. On the drive home, she ended up next to us at an intersection. I rolled down my window and yelled "BEE-DEE-BOP!" to her. Great end to the night!
* The return of Veronica's pinball dance! Half empty dance floors are good for something :D
* Shawna falling 1.5 hours short of an open-close because of her hugely swollen ankles. You're a trooper! I honestly thought you were gonna make it. I'm buying you more comfortable shoes for next time
* Hearing Breakfast in Bag twice & Dark Beat three times!
* Wearing the Burker King crown for several hours and no one saying anything to me
* Justin getting so wasted at Heather's mid-day that he was awol for hours on end. Get it together, man! :p
* Making new friends at zone because of my shirt
* (pre-party) an annihilated Alex on my bed whispers to Veronica and I - "if anyone asks... I'm a blueberry muffin"
