Okay first of all. WHO IN THE BOOKED THE OPENERS???? That was horrible!!!

I've seen much, much better sets from PvD, but with all the alcohol and hot women at our VIP table I had a good time.

Well that was what I was saying when not one, but ALL of the openers couldn't mix worth a flying . Not only that, two of them were trying to spin hard trance. I heard train-wrecks, what sounded like CD burning gone wrong causing the music to cut off a few times. It was sad and pathetic.

Bruce Gibbons lives in San Antonio. Why in the hell wasn't he booked? I seriously doubt any of the openers hadn't had more than 6 months maximum worth of experience. And if they did? I hope they have day jobs... There's a few openers in Houston who can suck a dick, but at least they can do the basics competently. I'm done. PvD's set wasn't bad....but it wasn't good. Just like everyone else he is hit or miss. His sets are either really fantastic...or they are just simply okay.

The only thing that salvaged the night for me besides all of the Buchanan's(sp) Scotch I had in the VIP table was the chick I was dancing with. Of course...sucks for me she's lives way the hell in Pearsall, 1 hour past the city I met her in :/ such is life.

What is wrong with hard trance? Or was it just the fact that trainwrecking hard trance sounds even worse than trainwrecking something else :haha:

I'll tell you. And this is a subjective personal opinion. There's nothing wrong with playing hard trance EXCEPT if it is in the main room and you are opening for the headliner. Some headliners to my understanding, specify that nothing be played over 130bpm prior to when they go on.

Now...from my experience, playing hard trance early on in the night while the majority of everyone is still sober, is pointless and doesn't do anything to build the night. While said-DJ is banging it out at 140bpm+, what is everyone else doing? Standing around. The glowstickers will be in full swing but they dance to anything.

Then again, if the DJs had as little experience as I think they did, they wouldn't of known any better. I blame whoever put them on the line-up.

It's like this. Why is it at the better organized events, do you have the openers play either minimal, progressive, house or genres that run between 125-128bpm prior to the headliner? Because it warms up the crowd and builds the anticipation proper. If you have DJs that bang it out and leave the dancefloor empty until the headliner goes on...that venue/promoter just lost their credibility to the headliners the book, and some of the people like me who pay to see a good show.

This is, of course my modest opinion.

Completely agree with you man, I didn't connect "opener" with "playing first"

Heheh, its all good. Funny thing is when I very first saw the line-up of no-names I knew how it was gonna be. Then when I very first walked into the club with the dj playing 138+ pretty much confirmed it.

In the past tho, PVD *always* brought an opener with him like Jerry Bonham or Edgar V. And at every event I've seen him at in Dallas they always had locals that did a proper job.

Of course, this was the first time I've seen him in S.A. so i dunno.

When I saw him at bar rio earlier this year I thought he played a pretty good, although short set. Highlight of the night for me was when he dropped Depeche Mode - Martyr (Paul van Dyk Remix) :D. If anyone can pull off the cheese, its PvD!
