$300 + tax

I download an awful lot of books but, accordingly, I spend 10% of my salary on paperback copies... like a tithe or summat :p

I don't download music any more, and I happily listen to the stuff I subscribe on Last.FM - if there was a similar service for books (or computer programs in general), it'd be perfect.

Depends on the business. It sure as isn’t good for gaming.

Hello fellow addicts,

[quote]Do you believe this is true?

Sometimes - it depends how it effects contracts and sales for use insertion and distribution streams of the music. For the artist themselves it effects their standing and the effect of the piracy on their viability for future sales, and future promotions invitations, and contracts for works. It can, but at the same time it can not.
Example, if I were to pirate music there would be no negative repercusions to the artist unless the song sucked and I made the point of sharing it or commenting when someone promoting the music was responded to with a firm, what crack are you smoking? Usually though I tend to promote the good stuff I hear not comment on the bad stuff, so personally me as a "pirate" is only beneficial to good music artists.
Since I rarely if ever buy music most of my funding these days (I did buy at one point) would be in attending events of artists I consider of interest enough to see. A lot of the stuff I listen to won't get mainstream radio play, and I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars in search of tracks. As a music hobbiest so any money going to music is very selective.

I recently read the book "Free" by Chris Anderson (WIRED editor) where he makes a lot of good points on the subject.

On a side note, I am doing my thesis about the same topic and I would like to prove the hypothesis. Would you guys like to contribute to my research via a small 3 minute survey?

Only one.

Information involving crimes has no grounds to be kept confidential and in a court of competent jurisdiction can be forced to be turned over for legal purposes.

Do not treat anything as confidential. Also cops and agents can do this same sort of thing and have. I would be wary of providing any information to this person which may be self confessing of criminal acts.

Records collected via court process are very much admisable as evidence if a warrant for their seizure is obtained, research data is not protected from criminal trial.

My only real response on this after hearing about this isssue for the last 10 years is: Who the cares, it is a criminal reality. If it ain't the criminals it is the good guys infringing your rights to enjoy life. Win or Lose, who the cares, live life with what you have, nuff said.

Support the right cause. It is pretty clear cut when someonething is wrong, regardless of what the outcome is, live for what you beleive is right, and if you don't got it right, whose fault is that. If people are made independent to be puppets what was the point other than making independent people non sentient. Yada Yada.. live life or contain yourself. NO harm done no harm done. I don't vote for the people making the laws. If I am a criminal due to a difference of beleif then I am a crminal to that society, but I am not of my own choosing part of a society that makes me live my life in a way that I do not support. Comes down to nothing but exercise of force. That's life, that's all. If my peace isn't good enough as more liberal than yours your peace isn't good enough.

The other way around is silence and solitude what is the point of society then. It is a paradox of social occurrence. Moderation right.

If anything I do goes to court I can quickly say you, and move on in life. If they can't respect my law why should I respect theirs.

Them extending their law over me is where the problem exists if I don't extend mine over them, it is an unequal exercise. Don't rule outside your right.

Respect is a two way street.

untenable. its a long road.

Do I know you, who the are you?

It is all social phenomenon.

I've never been a cultist. No harm known no culpability in all.

Not really. DRM is just an excuse peddled by thieves in order to justify their thievery.
