| We have a very similar measure in Washington, and I wholeheartedly support both. Having said that, I will be very surprised if either state legalizes it any time soon. Yes, we might be the two most "liberal" states in the Union, but there's a considerable amount of hesitation from many people. I can see this being passed in maybe fifteen to twenty years, or at least after medical marijuana has become more accepted on a much broader scale. |

who opposes it? i can't see how it would be like gay marriage where there was a big religious movement against it.
i think it has a good chance of passing because california is so broke right now and this could generate tax revenue for the state. |

I guess I'm speaking more in terms of Washington than I am of California. I can see you guys passing it before we do. The problem with our state is that we have a strong political divide between those of us on the left side of the Cascade mountain range and those that are on the right. While the coastal side is primarily liberal and has the majority population, the eastern side is very much right-wing and would put up a strong opposition to it. There's a reason that the group in charge of this initiative has only hit one city on the entire eastern half of our state for signatures.
I've also been reading quite a few articles discussing the issue and there are a good number of politicians opposed to it. In addition, there's a guy here who has been growing "medical pot" and using his house as a public dispensary, which is illegal under state medical marijuana laws. He has been flying a doctor out from California to haphazardly distribute medical pot forms and has recently had his home burglarized, during which time he shot and wounded a fifteen year-old involved in the burglarly.
Edit: This incident has caused a lot of scrutiny regarding our states medical marijuana laws, and it looks as though they're going to look at imposing significantly tighter restrictions on it.
Too much bad press here, in my opinion. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. |

I'm willing to bet most of the jackasses that will vote against it, will go home after voting, have a nice family dinner and discuss conservative christian values, say a little night time prayer, read a bedtime bible story, kIss their precious little angels good night... And roll up a fat ing doobie, smoke it with their spouse and then the living out of her unsuspecting anus, with a satisfied feeling of having fullfilled their civic and Christian duty.
ing hypcrites.
Then they'll make A waffle egg ham and cheese sandwich with marshmellow wasabi and mint jelly spread and chase it with a glass of Colt 45. Munchies, ain't they great? |

I'm not sure if there's a designated place to sign it near Queen Anne (at least, I think that's where you said you lived), but there are one or two on Capitol Hill the next time you're up this way. |
