Of which genres are a shorthand method for. It's easier to say you like hard trance than saying "I like fast music with euphoric melodies." |
Oh... I just read the description and I thought you were talking about trancecore/trancestep :(
Hard trance isn't really that fast when you get used to the +160 BPM stuff :p |

Most aficionados are more likely to state that they like a particular tempo/scale/compliment of instruments/timbre/dynamics/melodic themes and they would speak of complexities, layers, etc... they would not simply state a particular genre, as a true music lover will find elements that they love in numerous genres. |
I wasn't talking about one genre; I was saying that an aficionado would list the several that they like. For example, if someone asks me, I usually answer that my tastes lie mainly within the electronic realm, such as trance, techno, house and drum 'n' bass, but that I also like progressive rock, classical, funk, disco, big band and jazz.
I think your idea is absurd anyway. I've never met anyone who's said: "I enjoy music written in the e-minor phrygian scale with a slightly woody timbre and a grand, epic mood." And if I ever do, I'll let them know they're a pretentious knob.

It is to most people. But yeah, I hit my straps at about 180; I don't like much past there. |

There is a lot of crap out there in this genre, but there is also a lot of ing awesome country.
My best friend's brother's friends all live in the boonies and I got more into modern country once I started hanging out with them on occasion.
Here are some recommendations - youtube whatever sounds interesting:
Jason Aldean - She's Country
Lady Antebellum - I Need You Now (even the bf likes this one)
Josh Turner - Why Don't We Just Dance
Shania Twain - Any Man of Mine
Carrie Underwood - Last Name
Joe Nichols - Gimmie That Girl
Anything by Johnny Reid
Randy Houser - Boots On
Rascal Flatts - What Hurts The Most
Shania Twain - Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under
Toby Keith - I Ain't As Good As I Once Was

A good poop always takes precedence. |

indeed.
anyways, back to moral hazard. tempo, key, timbre, dynamics are (in this case, relatively speaking) to an extent unimportant characteristics of music and claiming that most afficionados have a taste for certain ones is a bit preposterous in my opinion. especially dynamics and key, as i'm most certain that unless classically trained in theory (a requirement that i don't believe is necessary to be a "music afficionado") the aforementioned would have a hard time discriminating between mozart's 5th in A or mozart's 5th in B. i personally do have a thing for Bb pentatonic and E dorian though, basically because of childhood memories of lying around in my bedroom all day practicing Bb blues and metallica guitar solos, lol.
i think instead they would perhaps comment on the qualities that they found aurally pleasing in a specific track using the language you used, such as saying "i enjoyed the key change during the second motif of the track," or "i like how the composer decided to make the violin stabs in this piece mezzo staccato" or something like that. |

I love music that makes good use of dynamics, actually, which is one reason I have been driven away from EDM the past few years. Dynamics is a very important part of music.

After dancing with several Colombian girls to it, I have to disagree. |
