Haha I wont disagree. I can't stand to listen to it, but dancing to it with a pretty girl is a good time.

:p

depends on your definition of dynamics

too many people on here think dynamics is equatable with, i dunno, a lot of changes/variations in a piece. i personally am just taking it out of my theory and jazz ensemble courses throughout the years that dynamics is the softness or loundess to a note.

therefore, saying "i love music that makes good use of dynamics," while i don't doubt your taste, is so broad of a generalization that you could very well put just about any genre of music under that err... umbrella. lots of specific pieces of EDM makes good use of dynamics. i'm sure the same can be said for country music in some respects. the reason we divide music into genres is so its easier for music to be catalogued and discussed without the long-winded descriptions, confusion, and to a lesser extent, even the pretentiousness (as domesticated mentioned earlier).

craig i can see where you're coming from to a certain extent but i don't think that a whole lot of people describe music in the same manner- sure, you can say "i love the post/neo-dadaist works of mark divo" or something like that (a genre description), but when i think "art afficionado" i think of a handful of stuffy hipsters staring at a mural, stroking their chins, going "mmmm. quite. yes. i love the earthy tones and textures. etc. yes." :P

i'd even go so far to say that afficionados would be more likely to claim that they like a specific period of music before they would start listing off individual characteristics of a certain piece that they hold as a universal trait they enjoy in music. just because one likes a wide range of dynamics or a certain timbre in one piece doesn't mean they'll like a wide range of dynamics or the same timbre in every piece. that'd be like saying, "i really like the timbre/sound of SRV's stratocaster in 'voodoo child,' therefore i would really like that same sound in a rendition of der dritte raum's 'halle bopp'" or something ridiculous like that. a scorching blues take on 90's trance... hmmmm...

and that's about all i have to say about that.

And that's exactly what I meant. Differences in volume between notes and between passages. Quiet to contrast with the loud.

[Edit: obviously that's not the only requirement for me to like a track, LOL. I'm just saying it is one thing I like in music.]

I also am a big fan of dynamics in a track... but I hear a lot of EDM tracks that make good use of dynamics, so your statement puzzles me.

Guess I am not looking in the right places then.

Could just be that we have different thoughts on what "good dynamics" are :)

Or, the styles we're listening to differ in their dynamics.

That's right, I am talking about country music, specifically the slick modern variety pumped out of Nashville.

What are your thoughts on and experiences with this genre of music? Do you know anyone who listens to it? Is "country music" even made outside of the United States?

My uncle is a blue grass musician (actually a pressed record made...), that is probably as close to garth brooks and charlie pride I've gotten.

Im glad that music isnt like Religion.

EDM would be pritty much ed, i mean doesnt everyone that listen to Country carry a weapon of some sorts by default? What does an average EDM listener pack? Shrooms?
