What are your best quality traits as a producer? (pg. 4)

I think mine is being able to put emotion and feel into a track, if I can't do that, then it's not worth doing, in my opinion.
My personal favourite of this is below (but I am open to criticism).

Foursii - Be Here Now (Matt Acton Remix).
There are samples on the digital stores, but they are :). |

In all honesty I think you did a good job from the emotions perspective. I feel as if the mixdown could be improved quite a bit though.
My best quality would be the technicalities I guess. I think I'm above average on that part. I do not consider myself musically talented though (improvisations are no-go for me, it's just figuring out what works mostly).
Biggest problem for me right now is I aspire to do productions of a certain quality level and I'm not quite there yet. I know I shouldn't be working like that and I know it's holding me back as well. It's a state of mind thing I have to get past in order for me to get into music production again.
For those that haven't heard the bird is the word check the links in my signature :), or my soundcloud: http://www.soundcloud.com/storyteller |

Strengths: arrangement & hook melodies
Weaknesses: massive melodies and final mastering
I'm best at building a track from lots of hooks and cool
sounds rather than building it around a huge moment. I
think this is why I found my feet with melodic prog and have moved away from trance |

My best traits are my ability to just sit down and come up with leads, melodies. 90% of my work is all Reprises, I cant ever come up with good builds to work into that.
My weakness is the above, arrangements, and basslines that fit the track. I come up with fantastic bass lines but it never fits in with what im working on :(. |

remember you can get inventive as you like at a slightly later stage ;) |

I'd say:
STRENGTHS:
-understanding and practical use of EQing (e.g. the ability to listen for and remove nasty sounding frequencies);
-good mix-down skills (e.g. the ability to maintain proper/balanced levels amongst all channels and never produce clipping);
-comprehension of proper arrangement (e.g. understanding the overall structure of house music);
-knowledge of how a compressor works and understanding when it may be appropriate to use one (e.g. getting consistent levels in a bass-line);
WEAKNESSES:
-poor sound design skills (e.g. creating patches from scratch);
-I find that I often get into certain habits that I have a hard time changing (e.g. using the same plug-in settings over and over again);
-I often find it very difficult to transfer the sounds that I hear in my head to my sequencer;
-I sometimes refuse to go the 'extra mile' to make a track really stand-out once I feel it's sounding 'good enough';
-poor understanding of music theory (I rely on chord libraries instead of learning how scales, etc. work).
People seem to consider Drugs as the best track that I've produced, so here's a sample: http://tinyurl.com/mpt8mh |

Strengths Starting new projects with enthusiasm and seeing all the issues with other peeps work.
Weaknesses Finishing projects, forgetting about some new vibe I created eons ago and figuring all the issues with my own work and recognising when its finished. |

Strengths
I rarely give up on a song.
I almost never use default values for synths and do a lot of sample editing, myself.
I love exploring all of a songs potential.
I will play a part, ad infinitem, until I nail it.
I am generally good at progressing a song.
I am McGyver, when it comes to music production. Not as much as Money Mark of the Beastie Boys, but I do what I'm able to do on a budget.
I take chances with remixes, but really try to honor the original content.
Weaknesses
My songs always wind up greater than 7 minutes. MUCH greater than 7 minutes.
I don't have the equipment I'd like to do things like add vocals.
I'm not as disciplined as I'd like to be about practicing my weaknesses and generally play to my strengths - at least so far as keyboarding technique goes.
I am making 0 dollars. |

Why would you consider that a weakness? |

mixdown/pre-mastering.
i HATE making the track but once it's laid out, i LOVE tweaking EQ, FX, etc endlessly to sound the way i want.
maybe i should just go into mastering...:p |
