It's that time of year already, Culprit Sessions atop the fabulous Standard Rooftop overlooking Downtown Los Angeles. We kick things off in style this year with recent LA transplants Martin Buttrich & Konrad Black manning the helm as headliners, with a special live set form Martin Buttrich. For those never having the opportunity for one of Martin's live sets, they're not to be missed. The man is quite awesome at what he does. Konrad Black will undoubtedly be bringing his unique brand of Berliner funk to the Rooftop in stellar Konrad fashion. Fresh faced and fully armed with tunes and vibes from WMC, Clovis along with label bosses Droog are on opening duties. Come early, stay late, be (slightly) irresponsible :D

it's hard to be irresponsible at the standard (for me at least...) . drinks are too expensive!

on the plus side, the security is relatively lax so i should be able to bring my own :)

i won't miss this one.

bring your own wine?
i've always heard byob- bring your own bottle.

unless i'm missing something here.
also, do you mean it's actually allowed to bring your own to the event? that would be spectacular!

As far as I know you can't really bring anything up there...and I'm pretty sure he means weed :p

Last week in the Miami heat provided a much desired creative jolt and a dollop of good feeling, mixed in with a heavy dose of inspiration. After the noticeable downturn of last year's gathering, that seemed symbolic of the overall lack of excitement in our warm and cuddly niche scene, this year came up trumps. Bigger and and better crowds, great variety of styles and a noticeable upturn in enthusiasm. This year's conference had a huge goofy grin on its face - and now we will attempt to carry that energy through the exciting summer of music and partying that's to come.

We waste little time setting up our shop on the vaunted Standard rooftop. With the legendary California sun now a long-term fixture (hopefully), we are set for another memorable season of al fresco partying, Los Angeles-style. Today we are happy to announce a whole slew of rooftop dates with fantastic talent that will be a precise reflection of the Culprit ethos, with the label artists mixing in with some fresh Standard faces.

First up are two of the more recent additions to the growing number of LA dance music expats, internationally reknown artists who have been making our city their second - or first! - home. Martin Buttrich and Konrad Black are two major inspirations for Culrpit and Droog, a pair of dance music leaders, who have grown gradually, over the last decade + to become crucial players in this New Wave of the global underground.

Introductions are scarcely needed for this duet. Vancouver-born and Berlin-groomed, Konrad Black began his path as a D 'n' B DJ in the '90s, went through an apprenticeship with the awesome Swayzak, made fantastically sinister but groovy techno records, started a stellar Wagon Repair label with the fellow canuck Mathew Jonson, travelled the world many times over, causing havoc at the best clubs and afterparties. Having graced our events on three previous occasions, we finally have a privilege of hosting Konrad's debut on the Standard rooftop.

Martin Buttrich is, perhaps, the preeminent sound designer of our scene. A man behind a massive global success of the Timo Maas brand, a wizard behind Loco Dice's musical output and, for the past 5 years, a tremendously respected and emulated solo producer - Martin is a true artist and a universally liked individual to boot. After another impressive performance in the cavernous main room of Avalon, Martin is thrilled to be a part of a more intimate party environment. His warm take on tech-house is a sure fit for the rooftop heat.

Culprit bosses and the Standard constants, Droog, share the first half of the party with the label starlet, Clovis.

NOTE:
The first party on the roof has an early closing time of 7pm. Please make your arrival plans accordingly. We are encouraging early afternoon entry with a $10 discount until 3pm. Our special guest will begin shortly after 4pm!
MASTER AL

i'm really torn, i want to go to this party but the weather doesn't look good for it. brrrr in the 60's and cloudy with a chance of rain and i need to get my brakes done and the usual $100 i spend at the standard needs to go for my brakes i fear. super great line up though. hate to miss it :(
