Anyone check it out / use it?

Personally I'm not very happy with the yellow box on the release page now that says 'buy vinyl and cd' or whatever and then says the number available under it. Looks ugly and out of place and makes me look down to see how many are available.

Any thoughts?

it was weird seeing that, have not used it yet though, it's a nice feature i guess.

I like about all of the new features Discogs has added lately. This one and the youtube vid added to the release page, makes it so easy to hear the track/the sample so I can decide whether I want it or not.

I hope they're not gonna charge us eventually.

It's a bit crap, really. Discogs made a deal with JunoDownload so essentially it's just JunoDownload through Discogs. And, apparently, you can get the same releases through Juno cheaper than through Discogs.

Discogs used to be database first and marketplace second. Sadly, those days are long gone...

There used to be a premium service there that cost money but they removed that since the marketplace makes them more than enough money.

this is an unfortunate turn of events

Some people will have seen this already, but an article on how Discogs is moving towards being a marketplace over a database: http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1166

I think a better business model would be to link the discogs database into the beatport, juno and trackitdown stores so that you could see which store had the tune you were after and at what price.

The store you buy the mp3 from could then give discogs a kickback for the referral.

As long as it keeps all its features as a free database I can't see how it's a bad thing. But being one of my absolutely most used sites I'm wary for change, especially when it's about going more commercial.

Submissions don't need to be voted on to be accepted anymore - everything goes live instantly. Only the quality of the data gets voted on.

That being said, if you need votes on anything send me the links and I can check them out.

well if they're not cheaper or have correct id3-tags according to their own database, then theres no point:P
