So on Sander K night security was eyeing the crowd and selectively letting people in.
No one showed up for Halliwell. (prob because a lack of an announcement + good promotion time)
No show at last week.
This week's lineup was announced...what, end of last week? And doors open at 11:30pm. (it should instantly draw more people than halliwell, but the late notice for the date and all once again could hurt)
There's some major issues going on with the consistency for launching a new weekly I must say. Groundwork has to be laid and traction has to be gained. And it's hard w/o being consistent.
Hopefully things get worked out and the night starts taking off! Doesn't help the scene if this night struggles!
***this post is of my own accord and not reflective in any way whatsoever with any associations or friendships I may or may not have with various other clubs, promoters, etc...if ya think it does, ur issue not mine. All in your head!*** |
This is the last time Music Box will be opening that late, and the last time Music Box will be double booked on Saturdays. There was a concert scheduled here way before Decor took over. |

I think this has all been part of a soft opening for the Henry Fonda. I believe they will be doing a grand opening next month. Some friends tell me they have more work to do inside. |

Got there around 1am, told the staff I had a print at home ticket, but the guy sent me to the back of the line on the other side from the empty line where he was standing. Wasn't a big line, but waited about 15 mins and then my ticket came up as rejected on the scanner...had to go to the cashier (who told me to go back to the girl who first scanned it!) The cashier couldn't scan it either, so she took my drivers license, typed some stuff into the computer and then printed me a hard ticket! My receipt was not crumpled up either, just neatly folded (and not along the barcodes).
Anyway, there was def no picking & choosing from the line, a girl in front of me was wearing a grey sweatshirt and got in before I did...lol. Then I ran into a friend inside who went right in (no waiting in line) with his printed ticket!!!
So what's the purpose of printing a ticket at home and paying the extra fee for convenience, when there is none? :wtf:
Once inside, floor was packed and there was a mosh pit at the bar. One bar with two sides, but only serving on one side. Got two drinks a few mins before last call, at least.

The judge came on at 2:30am and played a bangin set. I could have done without the "digital MC" every other song ("I can't hear you, put your hands in the air...") though! Crowd started thinning about halfway into Jules set and the closing DJ (who was also the opener?) came on around 4:15.
I think the night just started too late, people couldn't get drinks at the bar in time and many also seemed to be heading to Avalon afterwards. My biggest complaint, though, was paying for a bottled water and getting this tiny bottle (label printed "Dr. Frank Ryan Beverly Hills, purified drinking water, for promotional use only"), it was 8 ounces! :wtf:

Cmon, this is a nightclub, not Spirit Airlines!!! :nervous:
After getting that tiny bottle, I made a decision to spend nothing more this night, such ridiculous things as this will only hurt them in the end. Overall, was a fun night with a rough beginning. Once they start opening earlier things should be better, and more than one bar should be set up for a crowd of that size. :)

at Space he told me he decided to play a bit more vocal house than he usually does.... i dont think that's quite the right set to play on the Space terrace sandwiched between Pete Tong and Cedric Gervias at 8am lol... glad he banged it out last nite and I heard a set like he's made his name for. dude has a big future i think especially being only 20 years old... |

Yeah he does, he is one of those up and comers out of Sweden. That little area of Sweden and Holland is coming out with a big chunk of the banging house music that is hitting right now.
The rest of the world is laggin haha |

I had a fun night and thought JJ did better than any set he’s played since Wednesday night before Thanksgiving 5 years ago at Avalon. I do agree with in2muzikk in regards to the digital MC. I mean it was nice to get the crowd going but EVERY OTHER MINUTE was just way too much. Judge did a good job of hyping up the crowd.
The rooftop was open playing house music this time but wasn’t too crowded and ended up closing at 2.
I didn’t even know there an open bar for an hour on the rooftop until Brian/Natalie told me there was one! Oh well too late =(.
With a late opening (reminded me of Digweed a few weeks ago) It was a mad house. Security was being pretty cool and although they weren’t in the loop, they did let people go to the front who were on guestlist and see if they could by pass the line. After the crowd died down, I heard them move the line to the front of the club.
Getting in was really chaotic but anytime (that mainly hip hop promoters are involved – i.e. the ones that did the hip hop room at Vanguard back in the day) there’s always some type of bull.
I told the guestlist girl I was on a comp list and she told me “there’s no comp list” and I told her check again and I tried to show her my phone with my friend confirming me. She still didn’t wanna bother and I told her she should check again because my friend is staff ….. not a promoter. After that..she said “oh I see.. ok I found it, you’re on the first page”. Umm..hello! While anyone who mentioned some hip hop/mainstream promoters list, they didn’t even get checked off… the guestlist girl just asked “oh how many” and gave them however many girl/guy tickets they wanted. For the record, the guestlist girl was not a staff member of Music Box. She was a promoter which I recognized from the hip hop entrance at VG during the Giant days.
I was annoyed that I told some friends there was no dresscode. They got in line and when they got to the front, the door guy (who shall remain nameless) said “since you’re not on the guestlist you have to get out of line and line up at a different line” after they already waited like 30 minutes. My friends told me they were gonna bounce so I came out to get them. I asked the guy if he can get my friends in (who were gonna pay full price general admission) but as soon as he saw them, the guy said “they are wearing hoodies. There are hoodies that are allowed and some that are not and your friends can’t get in.” They were wearing regular sweatshirt hoodies with anyone would wear.
But of course there were TONS of people wearing same thing as my friends inside the club. The crowd was a mix of Vanguard and Avalon combined and a sprinkle of some young raver kiddies.
So word of advice if you wanna come… there is no dress code but to ensure you get in, buy a presale ticket or come SUPER early or bring a chic with you. That way they can’t give you the runaround. They’ll eventually let you in but if you don’t suit what they think is “the type” they want coming to the club, they’ll make you jump through hoops and hope you give up and don’t come in. |
