US customs and the effect of governmental PMSing

Yeah so I paid 300$ more for my flight just to avoid the hastle of dealing with CBP again, they've arleady cost me close to 200$ plus hours and hours of my time.
I opted to take the flight credit on my way back from mexico instead of on the way in.. this way I can actually book my stuff without issue of potentially being delayed detained or denied boarding.
This honestly pisses me off a lot. I wan't my 600$ back that the US has wasted of my money.
Why the heck is catching a connecting flight in the US so difficult.. when someone returning to canada isn't allowed on their flight because "they lack sufficient ties to canada" they are holding a canadian passport and have proof of owning a home in canada. It is total BS.
I'm not sure if people have dealt with customs in other countries while catching a connecting flight - any horror stories?
I very well may have gotten preclearance, but I'm not booking stuff in Mexico on a "maybe". This is another total BS waste of my money by the US. And yeah complaining about how ed up they are probably doesn't help but its the truth, so utterly ed up, the system needs to wake up cause it is not good. Arbitrary denial without actual realistic or rational grounds is just disgusting. They should require substantiated legal proof before denial of catching a connecting flight or real potential of a security breach. Fact is I have no evidence how I could fit either situation so I have a right to be upset I'm being hastled by CBP while trying to catch a connecting flight. There are no valid grounds for inadmisability and I am visa exempt and not part of the visa waiver program, so WTF. |

| Why don't you just book a direct flight from Canada to Mexico to avoid any of these issues? |

I ended up doing that.. but I still have my ticket from last time - the time prior to buying my stopover atlanta flight the border gaurd said that there was no reason why I couldn't travel through the US - then when I landed in atlanta I was told I was inadmisable because I didn't have a visa and required one because I had previous been denied entry to the US. But the originating grounds were due to having insufficient ties to Canada (when I tried to collect the boat I bought in San Fransisco) - this didn't come up the next time I went to the US - and the border gaurd said that I could travel in the US on future dates. Now as far as I understand I would need to prove that I have don't have insufficient ties to Canada - but it is way to sketchy because every time I've gone to the border I've gotten a different story that contradicts the last information I got.
But I don't want to burn the money I already have credited due to not being able to take the return portion of the flight I got taken off of on my way back from mexico-- I still had a return toronto to mexico ticket that I was credited for... but now airline costs have gone up too.. so I don't want to have to buy a ticket last minute or get delayed.. on the way out this isn't a real issue - on the way in though it could cause me to miss connecting flights with no refunds (or Id need to pay more for refundable flights.. that usually require 24 to 48hours advance notice for refund which woulnd't be possible) basically it drives my costs up big time. Huge pain in the but. None the less I'm headed down there but the cash I had credited to my account and I paid already is still being held by the US airline. I want the flight I paid for and CBP is circumventing me by complicating the situation, which is why I'm pissed off. My flight would have cost me 50-100$ with my credit, now I'm stuck paying 500$ more for the flight and I'm still out the cost of my credit held by the us airline. To have my money on a very tight budget locked in this way is a huge pain in the ass, as I said already. It is total bs. It is underhanded price gouging conducted by the US government, is it so complicated to let someone get on a ing plane. Totally disgusting. |
