Probably deserves a thread... (if not, apologies)
God I've heard such great things. I wish I had a PS3 as I've heard the blu ray makes the game look even better. Fortunately, I do have an Xbox 360.
I've hard trouble finding the 70+ dollars to buy the game, as I spend way too much money on liquor. But, I saw gamestop has some sort of promotion where I can return Halo 3: ODST and Zelda to receive 40 bucks off. Can't argue with that.
Who's been playing? Anybody beat it yet? I'm picking it up tomorrow morning and probably won't be doing much of anything else for the next few days.
How does it rank among the rest of the FF series for you guys? |

bought it, but i havent been playing because i left my ps3 at my house and im in an entirely different country, so i wont be playing it until i return buuut.
i had never played FF honestly, after playing FF 13 i downloaded 7 and 8 for the store and played a bit of those to see how they used to be.
Love the gameplay in 13, how u can skip battles sometimes by running by, the game is beautiful and the graphics are eye candy. Definitely loved it. But since i leave the ps3 for travelling i have to catch up with other games i leave too, so i couldnt play as much..since i was still doing Assasins creed 2 and also Heavy Rain (get it if you have ps3).
FF 13..awesome. 9.5/10 for someone who's never tried FF. |

Yep, been playing quite a bit over the last week.
Quite liking it. I dig the battle system, it's nice and engaging (though, it's repetitive, and a bit annoying how you can't control 2/3 characters DIRECT actions during a fight, you can only set 'general' focuses for their actions, through the Paradigm options)
Graphics are superb (no surprises there), and no big shock that the gameplay is fairly linear (so far, anyway, though I understand it won't ease up much on that as the game progresses).
The story is good. Overflowing with Japanese cheesiness on occasions, but hey, it's FF :p
My character's stats/weapons are starting to kick arse, and I've found a few places where you can around a bit to get easy CP and items for upgrading weapons/accessories/gil.
Finding almost no use for summoning though. So far, anyway. I feel like I should do it more, just for the practice... but it's completely unnecessary to win a fight.
Good fun, in any case, if you like FF games :) |

a small tip: Id recommend not passing up a lot of battles...you'll be regretting it in the later stages of the game..
boost as much as possible before moving on.
a lot of the cut scenes were beautiful as others have mentioned..
...i only wish i played it on my ps3 (too bad its broken)
edit: learn how to upgrade the weapons as early as possible. |

I'm almost done with it. It doesn't stack up terribly well against the better entries in the series, but it's a step in the right direction as opposed to 12, which was pretty atrocious, and 11, which is less a part of the series than Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.
Plus, it's a decent, if not great, game in its own right. I think it would be generally viewed more favorably if it didn't have the baggage and expectations that come with the series, but what can you do. |

| you know- i never bothered to play 12. or much of 11 for that matter. i lost interest pretty quickly. as a kid i spent so much time with the games though, so i'm really hoping this'll be somewhat of a 'return to form'. FFX was spectacular. I'm getting the feeling this may compare. |

Hahaha, I fully lol'd at that bit, where they 'suggest' that beating the armadillo thing would be hard for 2 characters, so you should just run on by. Sasz and Venille, you know what/where I mean :p First thing I did was pick a fight. Not hard at all, just a kinda long-ish battle.
Not really worth the battle, though. You don't get much from them. There are some really good places to mess around to gain easy .
One thing that pisses me off is how the expansion of abilities/etc is somewhat limited by the story line, in unlocking the next level of the crystal thing  That's ing weak! |
