FOR SOME PEOPLE, this is merely an outlet for one's alter ego where anything goes.

It's called doubling - the projection of an alternate personality exclusive to the internet.

Not much to misread there. You said she was interesting because she wasn't "ing pathological", meaning that you consider not being "ing pathological" to be something out of the ordinary when it comes to women.

As I said, everything is indeed relative.

It depends on the person. I met my girl-friend on the internet when she was trolling various internet forums. I know I tend to be a lot different dealing with people one-on-one (as in PM) than I am on the boards and find that most people tend towards more self-disclosure in private communications. I've also seen sadists and other manipulative personalities who will exploit one-on-one communications, however. After a while it starts becoming clear who you can trust and who you can't. Even so, it pays to be wary.

I'd say the more of a resume' or entitlement markers you see (e.g. my signature with a link to my blog featuring a player of my music) - on a forum like this, in particular, where many people are pro/semi-professionals/amateurs with their eyes on becoming professional - the more likely you are to find a person who's persona on-line is closer to their personality IRL.

For myself, I suffer fools here about as much as I do IRL.

+1, i don't buy that alter ego crap. sure some people act totally opposite of their real life personalities, but i think that in most instances during any average social interaction, our web behaviors are extensions of our own true personalities.
