Hey Guys,
I think somehow I lost the spark that made me want to make music in the first place.
I posted that remix on here and after it tuned out to be no good I just never opened my cubase again. I wasn't angry at some criticism I just thought well that was my best shot and after 5 years of trying and studying for a degree if I cant make a decent tune then why bother?
Its like I just stopped for years even as a child all I did was wonder how they made trance music, good music etc etc and wanted to do it myself. Seriously I just stopped that thought process I just exported the wav sent it to the label an never gave music a second thought. Its like I almost let myself down its really messed me up. I literally cant be arsed to open my DAW.
Anyone ever recovered from something like this or it that the end of the magical unicorn ride into music land for me? |

Dude!!
No.
DUDE!!!
You're not gonna in' quit, now, after you've invested a lot into this, just because your tune got rejected/panned/whatever other negative criticism has deflated your ego. No, sir. Now's the time to get right back up on that horse and have another go at it.
Leave your ego out of this equation. Listen to other people. Go and look in the Music Producer's Promotion Forum and listen to all of the fundamental failures of music, including my own, and give out some critique to them. It will get you out of your head.
You're not going to give up, though, because if you were, you wouldn't be posting that you wanted to, in here. Trust me. I've been through one ego crushing experience after another with music. I got so fed up, a few years ago, I walked away from all my equipment. It wasn't until I had time to think about it that it was due to a really poisonous atmosphere, which made making music so ing unpleasant and then really regretted that decision. |

It happens, get over it. I'm in a similar situation right now as well. Just open Cubase and remember that you love doing what you do :-). |

i just went thru the thread, i think you're missing a big pat on the back because no one mentioned anything about poor song writing. in fact most people say they really like the melody/chords etc. The only issue they have with your track is in the mixdown. You're a musician first, and everything else second. if you can't write good music, what's the point of mixing anything down? You've got the hardest and most talented part together now it's just time to refine some skills that can be learned(ie mixing, sound selection, etc).
just my 2cents |

only tip i can give as a failed producer myself is to stop thinking about the result and rather consentrate on having fun while you make music. maybe get a hardware drummachine or something, eventhough its useless (well maybe not), its ing fun to jam at. im a bit sorry i sold my little drummachine just because it was huge fun to play on. never used it in any of my tracks though. oh and also, just take a break, do some djeing, go to some partys and live your life. i havent made a track in over a year myself but my mind is starting to flow over of ideas which im gonna unleash when i have time and focus. this from just taking a long break, and listening to loads of various types of music (rock, punk, pop, rap, chill, and of course edm). |

There was one guy who I hung out with who was into EDM. Every time I showed him something I was working on, he'd just rip it to shreds. That really ed with me. It got to the point where making music turned into this unpleasant chore, not for doing it, but for actually hoping he wouldn't hear it. |

Some people take criticism as discouragement. Some people take criticism as a challenge to get better. Ask yourself, which one are you? |

Do you not think you were pressured into making stuff thru your label?Nothings really as good if your told to make it.
Would it not be better too unsign yourself and go back to pressure free learning again?
Just until your confidence returns.
And @Eddiezilker , I think that guy was jealous. |

Come on now this is the music industry. Grow some balls and use the criticism as motivation.
Learn to criticize your own work more/better and you won't need to listen to other people you'll know everything that needs to be done. Don't depend on others for your works worth because everyone is into different stuff. You have to be your own decision maker. Learn to listen and learn to improve. You don't need other people to make good tracks. |

I just listened to the track and I like it.
Man up, stop spending time in all the gaming forums and get cracking on your next tune. |
