Every time when there's a discussion of toronto's underground dance music scene of the 1990s, I always think of its house scene and the dance scene.
I am wondering as to how many of TA's here were big fan of Energy 108? What are your memorable moments, best memories, favourite tunes? Live to air? Chris Sheppard? Freestyle Frenzy? Lets start a discussion.

Torontos best radio station ever. hands down.
I remember hearing josh wink - higher state of conciousness for the first time ever on energy 108 and i thought to myself "wow this is crazy. i like it!" Tons of old school house and euro and epic memories from my childhood.
Energy 108 then led to to Chris Sheppard and his CD's destination dancefloor 1,2 and 3 all of which I still have.
more notable tracks that energy played:
boris dlugosh - keep on pushin
sandy b - make the world go round
ruffneck - everybody be somebody
planet soul - set u free
winx - dont laugh (the mothain original son!)
armand van helden - the funk phenomena
culture beat - take me away
brainbug - nightmare
sneaker pimps - spin spin sugar (armand van helden remix)
run dmc vs jason nevins - its like that

It was a very sad day when I turned the channel to Energy 108 and it was no longer :(
It was the ONLY station that I listened to for many many years!

That was the song that got me into techno! I used to come home from school, put on one of Chris Sheppard's CD's (the one that had that on it) and just crank and jump around.
I can still remember the day I heard a non-dance tune, and had a WTF moment in my head.
I think before it, there also dance stations on AM640 and AM680.

Correct, although they played what would have been considered top 40 at the time. But a different era where dance music got more mainstream radio play (although that has changed somewhat over the last cople years - dance has returned).
Energy 108 was the best radio station for dance music in toronto hands down. It was for the most part a top 40 radio station with more dance influence. But what really made Energy 108 were their feature shows like street beat at 6pm (PRIME TIME!) with Scott Cairns. Featured all the progressive dance music of its time. I remember hearing josh wink too and others like Shy fx orignal nuttah - that blew my 15 year old mind.
But there was also another more underground layer of radio in toronto that we don't really have anymore. The original global groove network 100.7 (the first over night rave music station) that had different genres featured every night and then groove radio (89.5) after that who still maintained a diverse line up of progressive shows. Since that time others have tried to mainatin the overnight dance channel but IMO failed miserablely with no variety and a similar brand of recycled playlists that we have grown accustomed to from mainstream stations.
Thank god we don't need to worry about tradional radio anymore.
chinamon

i was all about freestyle and euro back in the early 90s.
edit: i even had my hair slicked back with dippity doo back then. such a little chinese gino.

I listened to Energy 108 religiously. I won off their station pretty much every 30 days. So many contests. So many meet and greets.
Energy was the reason I pursued radio in college.
Curious, was the station ever located in Toronto? Cuz when I was listening, it was in Burlington.

I always used to switch over from 108 to this station after midnight back when I was in highschool....
feelgood
So much blast from the past..
In junior high, our bus driver was a mid 30'something wannabe gino and always had energy 108 going in the bus.
