Downtempo & breaks 4 me. But i still can't get over trance, it just suits me somehow. i do not listen to any trance dj's/shows/live stuff but i still browse junodownload trance section daily, hoping to find something good, it is a very frustrating process, masochistic, but i sometimes find good stuff(5-% of the time). Producing trance- sometimes, but I am more good at other genres.

I'm a Tranceaddict but I'm also into Techno and House... always have been and was never a genre elitist.

I'm always troubled when people can't appreciate the different sub-genres of EDM and instead waste time (going out of their way) to let it be known that they they don't like Trance. It's funny, really.

I'm a tranceaddict for sure. The majority of what I listen to is trance or some variation on it (goa/psy/prog/etc).

I don't think anyone in this thread is being a genre elitist when all they are doing is answering the question posed by the OP. I stated my opinion because the category of music labeled as trance in 2010 has changed drastically from the category of music that was labeled trance 10 years ago, even 20 years ago. Like it or not, the genre has changed, a lot, and anyone who has been listening to it for as long as I have can see that with ease. It is simply following the necessary, and inevitable, evolution that all music must go through to survive and prosper as time goes on.

I used to love trance. I used to defend it to my house-obsessed brethren, and defend it when people heaped scorn upon it. But that was ten years ago, and the music I once knew as trance has slowly migrated into other genres and those are the genres I champion now. My heroes that also once championed the genre have also moved on to other music. What people call trance now is not the same music. The elements that I loved in what was called trance back then are now called something else. So, in essence, I still love trance, it is just called something different now by the powers that be.

This type of migration is not unique to this genre either. Music once easily labeled as "house" or "techno" sounds remarkably different now then it did many years ago. If one is a relative newcomer to this music, whether by age or discovery, it is easy to misunderstand why some people no longer champion the genre like they once did. However, the fact remains that just because someone doesn't embrace the music now called "trance" in the modern vernacular, does not, by any means, imply that any of us have turned our backs on the elements that drew us to this music in the first place. The appeal has simply migrated to another segment of the musical landscape.

All very true. Its amazing how many names from prog and trance you see in deep house and tech house now.

Personally I think the style I've produced has broadened, as well as steering well away from trance, I've started producing in more genres like dubstep, tech house and deep house.
