Birthdays teh suck. (pg. 3)

I've had some pretty cool birthdays (Chemical Brothers on my 18th, Coachella with Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, Portishead, Roger Waters, etc. on my 21st), but outside of that I don't really do anything crazy unless something happens to be going on around that time. Like this year, for instance.
My birthday's on Tuesday and Ame is playing here tomorrow, a couple of friends are throwing the afters for it, and Bonobo will be here on Sunday. So yeah, I'm gonna take a three-day weekend and party. The only thing I'll do on my birthday is go out for a quiet dinner and that's it. |

| birthdays are what you make out of them. I generally see them as things which are only good if you try to make them so. Some of mine weren't as good as they could've been because my 18th came the day before a major exam I had to pass to finish college, but some exceded expectation, esp my 23rd where we went abroad and rather than a cold november morning I was on the beach and ing around on a pedalo out on the sea before eating a great meal. I think it's as much who you spend them with too. My 21st had lots of people around but it wasn't as much fun as ones like my 19th where I spent it in the company only of true friends and not people who felt obliged to be there because someone they knew was 21 and it was tradition. |

| I have to say, my 21st was awesome. Me and 5 of my friends went to South Africa (from the UK) for 2 months, and partied like maniacs. Soooo much fun. |

I signed up to ask a question about downloading something, as I was a lurker before. Went back to lurking/not being here, until I read some posts about Platipus coming back with Swarm and Papillon so I started coming around/posting again in May 2009. So it's been a year that I've been active.

| Mine was yesterday and I only thought about it twice, a little after I woke up, and when I went on TA/FB. Like people have said, it is what you make of it. I just see it as egotistical to make a big deal of your own bday, but some people pull it off well. |

| My (41st!) bd was last week, aside from the missus giving me a gift certificate for a treatment from one of our shiatsu teachers it was pretty much a non-event. Most years I've usually organised some sort of party, as I love entertaining others and DJing on my b-day was usually a special treat I gave myself, but more recently I've come to use the day for quiet introspection and contemplation. Had a lot of b-days ruined by selfish family members in years past and came to realise that a lot of that pain resurfaced time and time again like a nasty anniversary present. Instead of numbing/burying it by going out and getting trashed, I instead chose to take the more constructive path of confronting it. Not exactly "fun" in the tradtional sense, but I always feel better afterward for having done so. |
