Buying A New Computer

In the next couple of months I'll be moving from the states to Australia for college. Thus, I will be selling my desktop to buy a new laptop to accompany my studies. The thing is, I've been out of the loop in terms of technology and computers for the past couple of years. I was wondering if anyone could help recommend me a computer. Here are my requirements / needs:
1. There isn't a cost limit; however, I'm not trying to spend a ridiculous amount of money on the thing.
2. I do not play that many, if any, vidya games. Thus, a Mac is a liable option now.
3. I will be using it to accompany my DJing and music needs.
4. My last laptop was 17" and way too heavy. I want it to be small (13"-15") so it won't be a bitch to carry around to class from time to time.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: Also, please don't just say a computer. It would be really nice if you could give me some specifics as to why I should buy that specific product, and some credentials. |

Any dual core system should do the trick. You don't need anything crazy if you won't be running 3D-intensive programs/games. I would grab this:

If you are going to be taking it to classes, you might consider the upgrade to a 9 cell battery for $45, so you don't need to plug it in as often. That's the only upgrade that's worth it in my opinion. |

There's so much choice, and it's such a personal decision that there's no way anyone can be right or wrong when recommending a laptop for you.
If it were me I'd buy the exact same laptop I have now.
Dell Vostro 1510 with 4gb RAM, 160gb Solid State Drive, Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz CPU. Win 7 64bit.
This thing is laser fast, and at a budget cost.
Solid state drives are the last link in making a machine run fast, I never believed it would make such a massive difference to a machine.
Get one, you won't regret it. |

I thought quad-cores was the basic now? My desktop at the moment has a quad core.

Yes battery life is very important to me. I really hate having to always plug in my laptop and what not. |

No, dual core is still standard for most people. Since the vast majority of computer users have dual core systems, very few applications are designed to take advantage of quad core. The dual cores have just gotten faster and more efficient over the years.
If you want to splurge more $$ on a faster system (with new i3 processor + DDR3 memory), consider this one: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...c=FNDAVA3&s=dhs |

Only issue is most i3 systems come with the horrific on-board graphics. Those chips really suck hard. |

And the i3 is a solution when compared to most midrange dual-core systems. the i3. It is the Celeron of the new core iX platform. |
