I liisened in a car where the bass really showed itself. Doesn't really come out on my pc speakers.

Especially noticable in the outro.

I particularly mean the low end, not so much the rollingmid parts.

Ok, so we all know the basics;

Get the right sound to start with

Side chain compressor set up

Use a sub a mid and a high

Roll off the sub end to the correct amount

Thats all basic stuff we can all do, but listening to the track above, the bass is in a class all it's own.

Note for example how it sounds ultra contained and squeezed, almost as if using some perfect notch filter.

Note how every note carries the same resonant weight (something Ive noticed a lot of producers dont seem to be aware of) and sounds like warm rubber.

MY THEORY - it's using the perfect compression and amp modelling / distortion set up that over time the producer/s have happened upon.

THE PLAN;

POST UP YOUR OWN BASS / KICK SAMPLE HERE, and maybe we can honestly compare to that track. Focus is on the bass, not the kick.
Maybe use the same pattern as in that track.

Don't be afraid of 'failure' or harsh crits, I certainly can't get this quality yet. It's a bit of fun and maybe will help us all raise the bar with luck
:haha:

Someone said to me all you need is trillain, job done, but c'mon, if it was that easy, every producer would be making similar quality bass.

Thanks for the samples chaps.

So far it seems to my ears that we're at a similar level of ability in terms of our bass, but none of us are close to the standard in the track by Activa / Matzo.

I know a ton of musicians that can write nice melodies and have all the musical threory you'd ever want (especially on the indi and accoustic scene), but very few Humans that can deliver real high class sonic landscapes.

It's made me think I have a long way to go yet:eyes:

Even listening back to 1977 Donna Summaer 'i feel love' by Georgio Moroder, what a class immense chunk of sonic fabric.

Maybe some people really do have an innate knack........
Waza
someone post the midi for it.

Damn it, is not easy to make you happy man, lets try this:

Frozen Aura Demo

and see if this get close to your reference bass.

I believe the secret to this bass sound is a certain type of SAW sound that can also be heard in 'Happy Up There' by Royksopp

I have no idea how it's done.

It is really few of us who can make nice sounding bass and blend it into a nice groovy track.

Cheek one of TA producer http://soundcloud.com/marioandericj

If you don't like this bass, I guess, I have to find myself a different hobby.

Cheers

I just would like to let you know that the track hardly sets my world on fire.
Bassline or no bassline.

I have never admired a track for its technological context.

Nor do people shout out ' What a in reverb!'at the club!:D

Im sort of saying make some good tunage and use the energy on something you can call your own.
