I've got family (nephews & neices) and quite a few co-workers that have been looking forward to another Disco re-union. :-) Upstairs loft will be playing HOUSE music and freestyle. |

| look i couldn't care less if i hurt some oversensitive promoter's feelings, what i speak is the truth. a bunch of clowns overhyping every single event some promoter throws with little to no substance is counterproductive to promoting outside of their little bubble. |

My interpretation of what Rich is saying: Unless it is a big enough act that will keep the thread going the entire time up until the date of the event, it's pointless to announce things early.
The pointless (in his eyes) announcements tend to be the threads that for weeks or months you really only see the promoter or club jumping in every once in awhile with some type of bump (All us promoters have done it.) up until when people start paying attention to the night, probably a week or two from the date.
As a fan, I like it when stuff is announced early. But just announce it and leave it at that. Don't self bump the thread until the date is much closer. If anyone else is interested in it, they'll do the bumping for you. But at the same time, promoters gotta do everythign they can to get people's interest...so I understand them doing it.
As a person who helps with promotions, you basically want to go down every avenue possible to ensure maximum promotion is given. If that annoying bump gets one person interested who might've never been interested otherwise (for whatever reason), then that annoying bump has done it's job. And, in the end, I don't think the occasional bump is going to ruin your day.
My seven cents. :) |
