With it's growing popularity in major urban centres throughout Canada, the government has taken notice and now not only wants to 'educate' people about it, but regulate it (similar to cigarettes).

Hookah users were more likely to report also using cigarettes, marijuana, illicit drugs and alcohol, the researchers found.

About time. I was definitely losing sleep over the rampant and irresponsible use of hookahs around the city.

"This is spreading so fast.… People now understand it's really a major public health threat."

All this time we were focused on H1N1, another MAJOR PUBLIC HEALTH THREAT!1!, just to be raped from behind by hookah smoking. Further proof of how UNSAFE this world has become.

Totally! Look what happened with alcohol. Now we've got bars on every corner with people getting wasted and causing a ruckus in this city. Just imagine what'll happen with a hookah bar ON EVERY CORNER! EVERY CORNER!!! :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

This is ridiculous.. Toronto doesn't need to be anymore uptight.

Why do people call it hookah? It's Sheesha or Argeelah. Nobody in the Middle East ever calls it hookah..

Well I'm not from the middle east... so I'll call it as I please.

Basically "here is an activity that we should regulate" means "omg how have we been missing this tax opportunity?"

Of course you're entitled to call it whatever you please.. but a little more awareness of foreign culture and language doesn't hurt anyone.
