I always pictured these things having money meters on the racks, so you can just pay for the one day. :conf: |
and never return the bike?:) |

The whole thing is stupid...
You wanna ride a bike, buy a in bike...
And you could buy a bike, theft insurance, a lock and chain, AND maintain the damn thing for A LOT less than these rip off membership prices... |

They would have GPS tracking devices as well, duh ;) lol
I think you should pay at a meter, by credit card, and there's a deposit fee for the cost of the bike. If you don't return the bike by the end of the day....I guess it's yours. I dunno! There's gotta be a better way to do it..... |

I don't think it would work - it's like those kiddy pram things in malls that you rent for a toonie or a loonie and then you put it back when you leave - thing is, noone needs those things and to steal a bike using a meeter is very simple
credit cards could be stolen - and how will they reimburce the deposit fee? it's too much hassle, a deposit every time you rent the bike? |

It is a great idea, but as others have said it's priced way to high...especially for the target market they're going after.
The annual fee + monthly charges comes out to $414. For that price you can get a solid $250-$300 bike, plus get a helmet, lock and other accessories.
AND they're gonna have corporate sponsorship.
Go back to the drawing board. |

what do you mean credit cards could be stolen? It's all done electronically (u take your credit card after), you just swipe the thing. You either get your deposit back when you return the bike, or you get charged when u don't. Same as if you book a hotel room, or rent a car, you usually have to put a deposit down. You get it back, as long as you don't anything up!
LOL the whole thing is stupid. I'm just trying to think of alternatives to buying a year membership for a bike I would use less than 2-3 months a year. So dumb. |

as in - credit cards can be stolen, lol. steal a card, use it to rent a bike - there you go! lol :) esp. now with a chip technology, you don't even need to sign anything
since when you get a hotel room deposit back?! lol it's not a deposit, it's a % of the total amount - when you check in you pay the amount less the "deposit"
same with car rentals - it's like 10% of the total or something, and the amount you owe is less that 10% when you show up to take the car
either way, you're so right - fairly dumb idea... |

If someone is going to steal a credit-card, why would they waste money on a bixie bike? I'd be more inclined to the Trek shop and get me something shiny and worth committing credit card fraud for. |

no I know what you could do with a stolen card
all I'm saying is that with what Ciara suggested, there is NO guarantee that the company will get their rented bike back
and the deposit idea won't work |
