I’m in conversations about bringing these two legends to the city, its looking for the first weekend of October. I have no set venue and I’m not even sure we can pull it off, but I thought I’d get some feedback from the Tdot massive about what they think of the booking and where they’d like to see it go down.
Straight up, for as much as I LOVE these two dudes, I’m hesitant to try to make it happen. Not because the last time we brought Terry to the city we lost $$, but because I don’t want to bring him here and not have the party go off like it should. Don’t get me wrong, the party at EXPOSED was amazing for what it was (you can hear Terry’s incredible set from that night here: part1 | part 2), but Toronto shouldn’t be hosting the best of the best without a full dance floor in front of them.
Anyways, I’d love some feedback as to what you think of the possibility of us putting this gig together. I know it would be a dream for me, what is it for you?

I ing love Terry Lee Jr.
The guy pretty much invented Tech house no? Footwork is my first choice to see him. Intimate and sweaty!

I have the perfect idea for a venue...

Yeah, would be nice to see these deep house masters in TO. Or at least one of them :eyespop:

The problem with seeing these guys, as well as many other deep house artists, is that they rarely play the deep house they're known for. It's hard to pull it off on a dance floor, so they usually pump it up a bit. Not saying it's bad at all, just you'll rarely hear what you came for.

Your bang on.........because that music is hard to sell in Toronto.
There are dozens of artists who I just ing cream over when I listen to it at home, but in reality, Toronto club-goers dont buy it.
With that being said, maybe FW isnt such a good venue. Stone lounge?

The Timewriter at Toika

even footwork is too big of a venue, and too much into tech sound for proper deep house. and timewriter is known to go into tech house... which he's not so good at.
small, intimate venue for deep house. and with proper promoting, only the people who knows their deep house will come...

< Already there. For serious. I have been waiting for the timewriter forever! Please, Stone lounge, or Toika. Preferably Stone. but whatev.

We'd love to host these guys in a small venue, but even though this music has not been really embraced in Toronto, they are in demand around the world, often playing in front of thousands. Their fee definitely does not justify an intimate setting unfortunately. Footwork is definitely the best space, but I agree, the regular crowd might not be all up for it... though I know Joel really loves these guys as much as we do. The contemplation continues...
In the meantime, here's the set from '08 from The Mod Club. As you can hear, Terry definitely played deep tech house on this night... one of my favorite live sets we've ever recorded.
