Hey Guys,
I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on getting a bass line to have the clarity and crispness of these guys? I have tried so many different things but wondered if anyone has any good tips? You can listen to "Man on the Run" & You never said on Juno Download.... Its got such crispness to it....
I have a few waves plugins and run logic and have synths such as massive, predator, albino, blue, v station and a few other....
Thanks :-) |

Those samples are terrible and FAR TOO LOUD but post a sample of your track and I can offer some advice. I assume you already have the sound programmed as close to what you want? After that it's most always EQ. |

hard to say exactly from youtube but just sounds like standard layering to me??? any of those synths you listed are more than capable of doing those sounds |

Been trying really hard to get as close as possible to sounds like that with only some simple FM.. A low frequency sine wave modulated by an even lower freq saw wave.. But my results haven't really been so great. I feel like I've really been stuck for a few months with my learning now.
But I personally prefer experimenting more than just asking around every forum for how can I do a sound like this etc.
Though I'm only an FL Studio newb, I find Sytrus very flexible in things like these. I actually stopped using Vanguard when I found out how simple it is to get some decent sounds out of it..
And this is my first post, so don't be too harsh on me. (Although I've been a spectator on the forums for quite a while) |

I wouldnt agree with this, layering will just make things noiser, not clearer or brighter.
Eddie, could you plz explain that pic a bit more, im not sure what do you mean by shelving, and why would you do that? Generaly i have the same problem... |

Well whether you agree or not thats the way most basses in tracks like that are done, it wont be noisier if you do it right
a sub bass with another bass (sounds like a carefully high-passed pulse/sawtooth) sitting on top
the shelving that eddie posted could possibly be for the top bass, obv. not the sub
from that man on the run track this is what the sub pattern appears to be

the bass on top will be something similar with maybe a slight delay |

I actually tried layering basses now for the first time with some effort into it and came up with something close to the bass in Technique - Sun Is Shining (Mash Up Matt Remix). Though that would have propably been possible even without the layering..
But I really like that bass, it's got a nice, some sort of aggression to it in that Technique song.
Edit. And oh, going back to ISOS 1, compared to everything new, including the song of whichs bassline we're talking about in this thread, felt like I hadn't listened to trance for years now.. I hope it's not just the beer. |
