City View @ Metreon

totally under-utilized venue :o

Maybe now, but I used to go to a TON of random public & private events that used that space back in the day. But then it all stopped, prob because of management.

But now the place is a ghost town w/o a special event going on.

It's only a matter of time before the metreon closes. They have to be losing so much money at this point.

metreon was actually quietly bought off of sony by the westfield group a couple years ago. sony is vacating and westfield is remodeling the dated 'shuttered' street view, to make it more exposed to the public with more arts, culture, and food shops that compliment the burgeoning 'museum district' better. i dunno if it was brought it just for the party i was at or a sign of the changes, but the walls in city view were hung with a bunch of canvas paintings. anyway the party was awesome while the sun was out.

This is absolutely a dream place for throwing big EDM parties for profit. The view is gorgeous and refreshing. There is a huge amount of pedestrian traffic downstairs. It probably takes some ideas to get people walking by to go upstairs to check it out. Some advertising signs might do. It would be ideal if some video cameras can be installed to show how the party is going upstairs.

I do notice that inside space is very spacious, which makes it difficult to get a party vibe going. It probably takes a big headliner to fill the inside space. The outside is quite narrow, so it was pretty easy for the party to take off yesterday.

The Swag people made a big gamble and won decently. If they have a cut from the beverage sale, I am sure they made a handsome profit. Hopefully another EDM event will be thrown there soon.

keep it 21+ though. No need for kiddies to ruin the reputation of the venue.

keep it strictly house music and everything will be fine. sunset (and dirtybird) know how to do all-ages very well...

I'm very aware that westfield bought it from Sony. The PlayStation store was the last bit frmo Sony to eventually pull out. That said, it's a lost cause. Westfield has their massive center a half block away and it's directly on the bar line. And people will prefer to go to the westfield center theaters vs metreon because metreon started to get a patron rep similar to kabuki. loud mouths everywhere. Why 1000 Van Ness is the best theater in SF.

Anyhow, poin tis. Metreon is a lost cause right now. The structure of the place just makes it difficult for sustainable long-term merchant business success. People will always prefer the typical mall feel...at least for long while

agree... ugh only thing the metreon has going really is the real imax setup... to bad the gimmick imax setups around the bay fool enough people to not make the trip. not like they show any real imax made movies anyway so i dont really care at this point. at least we still have the san jose tech museum <3
element-y
dublin imax > metreon.

and yea shame about the location. Is westfield in charge of Santana Row? Whoever is should take charge of plans for the Metreon.

this would also be one of the only spots downtown that could possibly do an outdoor area after 10pm without noise complaints from any neighbors

Think about this: the venue is close to the busiest shopping places; people walking by have money to spend. By working out some issues on how to get people to check out the party, it is going to be a very profitable day-time EDM venue.

The Sunset and Dirtybird crew have done enough free day-time parties; they have the fan base to throw parties there. It is long overdue for them to make some money for their contribution to the SF music scene. Sometimes I feel bad that they have to spend their own money for throwing those parties.

It doesn't matter that Metron sucks as a shopping place or theater. It is going to be all the better as an EDM venue, because the rental will be cheaper, and the terms will be favorable to the event organizer.
