People always ask me if its street legal :D
Perfect for short city commutes because you can still hop curbs and it's super easy to ride/learn on. Plus I get 100 miles from about two gallons. |

The lower cc bikes are buzzy (vibration), are underpowered, and not as smooth. This becomes more of an issue when your commute time is longer than 10 minutes and involves highway travel. Get a bike 600cc + and you'll be ok. You also have to consider riding style. Sport bikes while they look cool, are fast, and handle great are uncomfortable to most, the suspension is stiff so you feel every bump, your stretched forward in the racing position that can bother your arms and back, the seat is hard, there isn't any real storage, you'll be tempted to go faster than your lack of experience can handle, and if you drop the bike like most beginners do you can damage the faring (an expensive repair). For all of those reasons I'd recommend a cruiser. Also make sure the bike isn't too high for you, otherwise you'll be on your tippy toes to touch the ground. |
Modern 250s (Ninja 250R, Suzuki GZ/TU250, Honda Rebel, etc) are not plagued by these problems anymore. Read up dude, even Cycle World notes that they have been able to get away from this issue.

These are nice, but pointless if you are in a more urban area that has no offroad stuffs. |

You can't redefine physics heavier cruisers with soft suspension give a more comfortable ride, same is true for cars. Stop trying to be a know it all you've never owned a motorcycle. |

I bought a little 50cc supermoto last month and I'm loving it.
Sure it's only 50cc, but it's got 6 gears and it's a light and nimble full-sized ride.
Over here, I didn't need a course or bike permit to ride it, so it's my learner bike for a few years then I'll take the testing and step up to something bigger.
It gets great mileage (about 7 euro / week on fuel for my 40km commute per day) and it's super fun.
This is the one I've got:

And when was the last time you owned a 250? Take that stick out of your bald, old ass and ing realise that this isn't 1972 all over again.

The same is here in the U.S. with regard to needing a license at 49cc stuff. |

Thanks for the input so far from most people. So far I am leaning towards the 250R for reasons stated earlier; better MPG (60-70), good learning exercise before stepping up to bigger bikes, cheaper insurance, etc.
I still need to take the class so I don't really know how I will feel in that position or what bike will be "too big" for me, I'm only 5'8". Call me vein, but aesthetics play a major factor in deciding what bike I buy, and really the sport bikes are what I'm aiming for. If those don't work out for me, I'll prob give up attempt to ride bikes.
I've heard the 600+ get about 40 MPG, if anyone can confirm, great. Another issue I'm trying to figure out, is I gotta dress well for work, but with the proper gear on, I'm wondering do I stash clothes at work and change there or can I layer up. |

The insurance rates have more to do with your age, driving a sports bike, and if its new carrying comprehensive on it. You should always wear leather. You can wear your good clothes under the jacket and put your dress pants in your back pack. After a while you'll find using a bike for commuting not that fun or convenient. |

They're not fun for anything.
No one thinks they are cool, other than the c_nt riding it. The image of them has been spoilt by pricks wanting to go as fast as possible, making as much noise as possible for as cheap as possible. I've never met a rider that hasn't been an douche shaft. Best thing about them is when they nicely twat themselves off the face of the Earth.
Even the races are dull to . Unless there is serious crash b2b injuries. |

While I mostly agree with you, a motorcycle can be fun taking it out for the weekend cruising around. You wouldn't understand the feeling of flying around with the wind rushing at you, unless you tried it. A car really separates you from the outside, its like driving in a box, thats why ppl get convertibles.
If I lived in the city and Vespas weren't so over priced I get one and show the hipsters where its at. |

How do feel wind through thick leather, a helmet and a visor?
I literally can't think of anyone respectable that owns/likes a superbike. They are all fudges.
I am however enlightened enough to realise there will be some people out there, but certainly in the UK people only want them to try and show off/fail miserably. See boy racer, the mobile version of a chav. Only twice as annoying and tenfold more dangerous. |
