Not good,
For the 2nd time this week I have not slept at all through the night. And pretty much every day i've had less than 4 hours a night. The first time was wednesday before an exam at 9.30am. This one is today/tonight/now, I need to be up for work in 2 hours and just can't sleep.
Both nights were the same, i'd start to worry about all the exams I have then start to feel sick and wouldn't be able to fall asleep. I would pursposefully force myself to be sick in the hope it would help. I just keep lying in bed tossing and turning and might drift off for 20 seconds then wake up panicking about the exams.
I am going to call in sick today, and need to explain to the boss whats going on. I can either just call in sick with a stomach bug or tell them the truth, and i'd rather just be honest with them.
Has anybody suffered from this kind of insomnia? Any ways you got over it? Cures?
I have diazepam but I took it previously when I couldn't sleep and I still stayed awake but was trippin out a little bit. If I was to get some sleeping pills then i'd have to make sure they don't make me drowsy the next day.
I've no idea if any of this actually makes sense. |

it's so weird that you posted this, however, because i'm tired right now; but don't really want to go to sleep. i've been up for 23 hours. |

Recently, I've had some problems trying to get my body clock back to normal after pulling an all-nighter. I went to bed 8 AM two or three times this week because of that. Thankfully, I work at night so it's not really that much of a nuisance.
If you ever find out a way to go to bed when your body doesn't want to get some rest, please let me know :) |

Next exam is on Wednesday, the one more after that on Tuesday.
I'm meant to work 8-5 today and am on my feet in a hot room all day so I'm sure i'll pass out. Same hours again tomorrow. Then next week because its Bank Holiday i'm meant to work Sat - Mon.
I'm not sure what to do, I get on really well with the bosses but i've already had a few days off this year and can't afford to loose this job.
Should I turn up at work and go into the office and talk to the bosses face to face? Atleast then they are less likely to be 'off' with me. But then all my work colleagues see me before hand and I have to explain it to them.
Do I text my boss then follow it up with a phone call and explain it? I can explain myself but then its easier for them to have a go at me as i'm not face to face with them. |

don't know how your job is... but do you have any sort of vacation/sick time?
anyway, just say that with exams and a few personal reasons you have been extremely stressed out and haven't been able to sleep, etc... and that you're really not feeling well today and need a day off to recoop.
i think the stomach bug is probably over used, and make your boss think "ah he's hung over or something"
this way you're pretty much telling the truth, so it should come out easily and naturally, and i think it's completely understandable from your boss' point of view.
lastly, i've been in your same position a few times being in grad school now... for me, I feel like I'm completely wound up and stress myself out as i lay in bed... and end up tossing and turning all night.
what i feel works best for me, is for those days that you feel like you're wound up... is to turn off all tvs, computers, any source of entertainment a couple hours before when you want to go to bed. then lay down in bed with all the lights off except for a lamp by your bed and read a book until you pass out. my accounting books do a very good job of putting me to sleep within a couple of minutes. |

Its only a weekend job, so no vacation/sick time. I don't even have a contract annoyingly.
Would you call them or just go in and talk? I've no idea what to do.
The only problem with going in is that I will have to walk past all of my work mates on the way in and its usually pretty busy in the bosses office in the morning. Also with how exhausted and stressed I am, i'm worried I might not keep it together...
They don't know about my past problems with anxiety attacks and what not. I have been free from them for 3 years now...
I dunno, my mind is a mess at the moment. |

| Tell them you're depressed since Cameron became the prime minister. They'll give you the month off :D |
